I previously used a different DVR and was in the habit of just turning the thing off when I was done.  When I do this with the MediaMVP while in Live TV mode the program appears to shut down since the MediaMVP is turned off.  However on the computer the small icon at the bottom of the screen continues to show the green record icon.  If I then turn the MVP back on it goes directly to the Live TV screen but there is no image.  All else works fine including going in and out of the menu system.  Still when I go back to live TV mode no picture appears.

The only way to recover from this seems to be to go to the computer and close down the server.  Once the server restarts all works fine.  Possibly when the MVP shuts down the program could recognize that and shut down the live TV session as well so that when you go back in it would just restart from scratch.

A second thing on the wishlist, which is related, would be to be able to view a recording in progress after it begins.  Currently when something is recording and you go to the live TV it gives the message that there is no tuner available.  On the standalone DVR I used before, going to Live TV would automatically take you to the channel which is currently recording and display the recording in progress.  If you then try to change the channel a screen would pop up giving you the option to stop the recording and change the channel or  to just return watching the recording in progress.

Another related issue here is if you are watching live TV and a prescheduled recording starts, the live TV screen freezes.  You can back out to the Main menu fine.  If the program would automatically switch to viewing the program being recorded instead of just stopping, I believe that would be an impovement rather than having to back out of live TV, going to Recordings, and then playing the recording in progress.  Once the recording in progress finished the program could either revert back to live TV at the channel where it stopped or go on to the next recorded program if one is scheduled.....

A problem area found is that when watching the program which is being recorded, at the end of the recording I closed out and went back to the main menu. I then went to the live TV menu item. The program went into the feature but did not play the sound or video but just maintained a blank screen. I behaved just as described above when I shut the MVP down without backing out of the live TV menu first. I rebooted the computer and all came back just fine. I could have possibly just stopped the server and restarted it as that has resolved such lockup problems in the past.

if you want to watch a show as its recording, just go to the "records" feature, select "pending" the show will be displayed as "recording" select it, and click "watch".

I haven't tried that. Would be simpler though if it would just go there immediately if you select live TV.

i disagree, its not really live that way. your watching a recording. i prefer the way it is. however, it would be nice (if you only had one tuner) if you went to the tv guide, and hit play on a recording in progress and it began to play. but only allow playback, as if entered via recordings, so no channel changing message box etc.

Actually it seems that is is never live anyway since all the time watching what is called live TV it is recording at the same time. Have noticed a several second delay between real live TV and live TV with this and any other DVR that I have used.

I do appreciate the information on how to access the recording in progress as that is a good alternative to begin looking at what is being recorded.

I actually have my TV set up with a cable line splitter so that I can use either the feed from the MediaMVP or use the regular TV tuner simply by selecting which plugs on the back of the TV are active with the TV remote control. Works pretty well that way and I can watch what I am recording or any other channel for that matter while the GB-PVR does its thing independantly......

yeah live tv is always a couple of seconds behind, you are playing back a video file when in live tv, so true no live. but you know what i meant [Image: tounge.gif]. at the end of the day its up to sub (or i guess anyone who wants to create an alternate livetv, tv guide plugin, if its possible, live tv that is).

Amen to that!

Agreed, but in addition, how about a pop-up warning of a pending recording (that's about to pull the tuner out from under a live TV watching user), with an option to cancel the recording and keep watching the current channel.

If the user doesn't cancel the recording within the timeout (optionally displayed counting down), the recording starts, and live TV switches to the recording channel. (with the OSD displaying the channel and program info and recording stats.
