I've tried WinTV7 in Vista, 2 W7 installs and 2 XP installs. I've tried with both my HVR2250 and my HVr1600 and the 2250 only works with QAM in XP. Can't get it to work at all in Vista or W7. Once again, something about Media Center must be knocking it out.
I can't find where it saves the channel info to try and carry it over to Vista but it does have a much better, slicker face to it. Much improved but GBPVR has nothing to worry about.....it's not even close.

For the database, when I installed WinTV7 it asked me where to install and I accepted the defaults which turned out to be

C:\Users\Public\WinTV\Channel Database\hcwChanDB_5.mdb

Well behaved programs don't write data to "C:\Program Files" anymore.

Yep, it's there. No excuse but when I installed it on a clean XP SP3 drive, I was doing other things and not paying attention.....not to be confused with me paying attention and still not doing things correctly.
Now that I've found it, taking it into another machine and/or OS doesn't work for me. Still only works in XP for me (QAM that is). Analog works just fine.

Thanks for the help.

QAM scanned and works fine for me on my HVR 1600 in Vista, and I have VMC on this machine too.

Do you have TVpack installed on that system? I have a 1600 in Vista and even carrying the mdb file over, I can't get WinTV7 to see QAM. Same in W7. I've read so much about how TVPack takes control and I'm falling for it after having so much trouble with QAM in GBPVR and WinTV yet I have QAM a plenty in Media Center. Seems like MS isn't playing nice.

No TVPack sorry, but I have recently started having scanning troubles in GBPVR too.

Until something changes, I'm drinking the kool-aid that others havebeen serving detailing problems with TVPack systems and QAM.
It's seems to easy to simply copy the mdb file from one install to another for it not to work. Yet, it does not work.
I've a very patient man! Smile

saw this thread while searching google, thought i would join and add my 2 cents.

i installed this with vista home basic using a wintv hvr-950q. install was a little buggy, but i thinkn i got it working fine. program starts up in about 3 seconds, compared to about 15 seconds with v6. HD programs all look great on my 46" display. scanning channels was much quicker than v6, and i could actually scan all my analog channels even though the program wont let you view them. also, another negative to this beta version is you cant rename channels yet. kind of annoying when my qam tuner finds about 40 channels. which btw, this version found about 40 channels, compared to about 20 found by v6. another bug though, you cannot search for and add an individual channel.

recording kind of threw me off, as there is no external scheduler program. it is found in the right click menu. i set a few test recordings, and waited for the program to fire up while i watched. but the program didnt launch at all for any of my recordings, nor did my cpu usage go up at all. BUT, when i checked my recordings folder, i found all the recording there and recorded perfectly!! i tried again with task manager up, and there is nothing else running that is using any cpu usage. VERY NICE, as v6 usually takes up about 60% of my cpu while recording since the program actually has to be open to record.

i called tech support about the analog support and the ability to rename channels, he said this is just a beta version, and a few updates will be released throught the next 60 days.
