What do people think of this? , what are they doing to use .I would have through New Zealanders were smarter than this. First they say Freeview is here $400 and then Freeview HD $600 and then My Freeview $1000 and now they have gone and got TiVo come in (so where around 1000$ plus ADSL) and all this in the last year.

http://tvnz.co.nz/technology-news/tvnz-b...id=2591537

$8 million aus for what a My Freeview box that can download more old ads form the net so now we pay more for our free TV and all it has is the TiVo label on the front but no cool things like ad skipping or networking (for free at least is auss is anything to go buy) O and they may be able to someday bring in downloads for movies so that all those people work in vids shops jobs will be gone. That will help save New Zealand money, and make more Jobs. :0

What we have rate their ads now

As you can see I’m not hot on thisor should I say the way they have done it, they must have been planed this from day one, I do LoVe TiVo type boxes but are TVNZ doing ?, and will tv 3 and 4 come onboard with there epg, and why did they not talk about the epg before moving on this.... Man they need to learn to think be for signing on the dotted line.

At least they are going in the right direction (I think), as it shouldn't be to long be for we get better internet and Freeview HD over more of New Zealand and can rental movies online, it my only be with the TiVo box but we will get it. lol

And will they try this here?.

im actually pretty excited about this, but the only reason why i would consider this is the broadband movies.

i rather download/stream a 1080p movie and watch it once than buy a bluray or go to a video store.
but i dont want to pay $7 or so for each movie. if they do a subscription service where its $40 or so a month, i will buy one, but until then, i wont touch it with a ten foot pool.

I like that lol, found this to day the two go hand and had I think. And heres some maps on where fibre is and is going for adsl2,for use how dont have it. So we can get our downloads of our hd movies for tvnz . They are saying with there plans they are going to cover 75% of NZ with adsl2 by 2011 and then it looks like that 75% will be ungraded to fibre . . .
"However, those in towns smaller than Oamaru will miss out on the Government plan" and that will mean no Tivo downloads of movies and no Freeview HD as they are only going to cover 75% to 85%. At the end of the day its all about the money, have read that in all the time TiVo's been runing they have never made money form movie up loads . . . so are they to cheap, or is it the cost of the interne Big Grin

netflix in america have stated they believe their dvd/bluray business will be dead in about 5 years and expect it all to be online streaming.

which i can easily believe, in america they have the resources to do it. netflix is available to every xbox 360 owner and speeds are reasonable.

but that being said, im on about 3Mbps and i can get a 1GB about every hour. a 1080p movie is around 10GB, so yeah that would take 10 hours, but i dont mind waiting for it to download.

a 720p tv rip is about 1.07GB, and that could nearly be streamed on my slow adsl1 line (easily on my old adsl line at my old place, i was getting 8Mbps there).

Nothing wrong with telecom after 8 years of telstraclear.

As long as the pricing of the tivo comes out better than freeview|hd recorder then it should be good. And it will be good for people who haven't got the skills to build their own system, to have an option other than mysky.

Compared to the $188 a month I was paying TCL for internet, phone and tv, Sky and TCL at $140 are cheap...

I will be keen to see what happens here in Invercargill with this , as we are not in a freeview HD area (there is talk of coming soon) and we have some ADSL2 here still more to come and looking at the maps form above it shouldn't take much to get fibre her as Im 3 doors from the end of one.

As for dvd's and blue-rays disks what about games found this one a week ago love it run Crysis on my old 486. Big Grin
They have made plans for open band-width with no cap for TiVo boxs in Aus so what will it cost to get a movie over there. we may get them for free over here with the cost of our internet...lol

Found this to had to add it Brightspark who came up with this, One guess Cool
