hi,

i have a stupid newbie question ... what is MVP ?
Yesterday i still thought it is the GUI of GB-PVR but now it seems to be a device communication with the PC and the TV !? Is the MVP box directly connected to the PC and getting its data from the PC using radio communication (funk) ?

It's a very small device that you connect to your TV to play music video and pictures from your PC. It connects to your PC via a network cable.
GB-PVR has been written to use this device as a client so that the interface you view and control on the PC, can be viewed and controlled on your TV!

Instead of having to have a PC in your living room, you can have a tiny slient box! For me, this is the killer feature of GB-PVR.

I strictly use one of two MVPs with GB-PVR. Both are wired to 100 Mb Ethernet and work great. The picture quality is amazing. Often times, the digitization cleans up the analog signal. I highly recommend the combination of GB-PVR and MVP

Does only Hauppauge make such MVP device? Is there some standard behind MVP? Can I use another PC to act like an MVP?

There are similar devices on the market made by different manufacturers. However, GB-PVR only supports the Hauppauge MVP at present.

The MVP is fantastic, it lets you watch all your recorded programs on TV. The hauppauge software doesn't let you record programs only watch programs already recorded by PVR software. Go buy one.... Savastore in UK is doing the PVR350 and MVP bundled for about £110.
