I'm trying to follow the instructions at: CaptureSource.

I click on "Add", and I go to DefineSource.

I have an HVR-1600 (the MCE version). I click on "Settings" next to "Recording Source:". And now the dialog doesn't look quite the same. My dialog says "Device Type:", while the one at this web page says "Capture Card Type:". Ok, I can see how they probably mean the same, but why the difference?

Next, I click the "Only show devices detected on this machine. Now which do I select? "Hauppauge HVR-1500MCE (ATSC)" (why is this even listed?) -OR- "Hauppauge HVR-1600 (ATSC)"?

So, I select "Hauppauge HVR-1600 (ATSC)". Next I'm wondering which Board Number to use. I download the DeviceTypeCheck and run that. It shows me nothing. No boards are listed. Is this correct? Well, ok then, I just go with #1.

I skipped over setting up EPG for the moment. I just want to see my card working. But now what? I start pvrx2 and try "LiveTV". But nothing happens. I mean nothing.

I've spent a few hours trying different things here, but I can't seem to get off the ground.

The wiki hasn't kept up with changes to the software and some of the screenshots are out of date.

The quickest way to get a result is to add an EPG source. From what I have read here, the easiest is a trial subscription to Schedules Direct.

You will then need to Map Channels so that the software knows which channels in the EPG match channels found by the TV card during a scan.

without an epg source, you'll get nothing. Do your epg first, its the main thing to start with.

I've downloaded the xmltv zip file, installed, signed up for Schedules Direct.

Now I run ‘xmltv - configure.bat’ like the instructions say and I get:
C:\EPG\xmltv\0.5.55\xmltv-0.5.55-win32>xmltv.exe - configure.bat
Timezone is -0500
- is not a valid command.
Valid commands are:

So what am I doing wrong now?

For now, forget about xmltv.
There are separate instructions in the wiki to set up HDTV channels:
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Confi...HDTVSource
For the "EPG Source" choose SchedulesDirect. Then follow wiki instructions.

Thanks to all of you. I've made some great progress. I'm now getting both analog and HD off my antenna. I had a problem with sound, but installed the AC3 filter and that fixed it. The HD looks fabulous!

My next problem -- I can watch an analog channel. But if I go to an HD channel (which also works fine), then back to analog, the analog channel does not display. Any suggestions?

BTW, the command for this is:
xmltv.exe tv_grab_na_dd --configure

That's not quite what the gb-pvr wiki manual says. There's one thing worse than no instructions -- wrong instructions. xmltv has documentation. It would be better to just refer to that.

I guess I should probably take my other configuration problems to another thread.
(ETA: I took this question to a new thread here ->Cannot switch from analog to HD. It seemed more appropriate for "Support".)

The instructions aren't wrong. By running the batch file, you are actually using the very same syntax as you used.

You weren't supposed to type:

xmltv.exe - configure.bat

you were supposed to double-click on:

xmltv.exe - configure.bat

which would change directories, create files and initialize all at once...

Edit: I'm wrong. Your error was because the cmd didn't like you starting the batch file by typing, rather than double-clicking. The parser choked because there are spaces in the command line. If it were typed with wrapped quotes you would have had success.

Indeed, if I woould have created those batch files with names that didn't have spaces, we would not have had this problem.
