TV Wonder HD 650 PCI

Hi! I found this website today and wanted to try this software. The capture card in my system is listed in the title. So far I've installed the software but could not find a hardware profile that would work. Others have posted on the website that they have been able to get the card working, but alas they are smarter than me! I could not! Additionally I did try the technique listed for "unsupported cards" but ran into a dead end on that as well.

Does anyone have some advice that I could try to get my card working with GBPVR?

I have this same card and it's working fine for me in a Windows XP system. When you're setting up your capture sources, recording source should be set to analog or digital recording plugin (whichever you are using). Click on settings to specify the device. Then, I always just check the 'only show devices detected in this machine' button and it shows 3 entries for ATI 650 Pro. If it doesn't show up in that list, I have to believe it is a driver issue. What point exactly can you get to? Also, what operating system are you using?

I am running Windows XP (pro) as well.

In the config I choose the 'Capture Sources' tab. Then I click on 'Add' to add a new capture source. On the next screen I name my source, then by 'Recording Source' I choose 'Analog Recording Plugin' and click on 'Settings'. On the Settings screen I click the 'Only show devices detected in this machine' checkbox and then select 'ATI Theater 650 Pro'. Other options I have set:
Country: USA
Board Number: Capture Device #1 (I assume this since I only have one capture card)
Source: Internal Tuner
Tuning: Cable
Quality Profile Settings: High Quality

For source I have also selected S-Video since I am actually receiving the signal from the external breakout box via S-Video. No luck either way.

The problem I have is once I am setup I launch the program and click on 'Live TV' and nothing happens. The selection just blinks!

The setup I have is a DirecTV receiver (Model D10) connected via S-Video to the breakout box. The card works with the ATI supplied software (Catalyst Media Center) but the software is pretty lousy and limited in functionality. I tried a demo of BeyondTV, which worked fine as well.

Any further assistance would be appreciated!

I've never used the s-video connection but you probably have to add a channel when you create the capture source. I know that you can't actually tune anything from the s-video but I ran into a similar problem when I first started using GBPVR. When you are creating a capture source, select 'none' for EPG source. Click the 'add' button at the bottom and add a channel. The channel number and name shouldn't matter. You might have to click 'update EPG' first if the 'add' button is greyed out. After you do this, then try to start the TV and see what happens.

Alternately, you could plug the coax cable that outputs from you cable box into the tuner card. I have done this successfully before.

GBPVR is not the easiest to set up but once you figure it out, it works great.

Your advice was spot on! I added a channel as you suggested but still no joy. This time I was able to receive static (which I had not seen previously). I went back into the configuration and changed from internal tuner to S-Video external tuner and I was in the money!!

A question: Can you point me to some info on how to remotely change channels on my Directv receiver? Are at least the buzzwords for what I should look for. I don't have any clue where to start.

There are basically two ways to change channels that I know of. The first is with an IR blaster; that's covered in the link graham provided. The second way is using a port on the back of the satellite box. I've read where many people have used the serial port on their satellite boxes with success.
