I've just become a Dad for the first time, so naturally being the nerd that I am I went and bought a wifi web cam to keep an eye on the nipper......the main aim was to be able to flick on the TV in the bedroom (gbpvr from mvpmc) to see if the little munch-kin had spewed milk everywhere before stepping out of bed in the middle of the night.

So I have various mpeg4 and jpeg streams available from the camera all on a local IP, I can use the webcam plugin with some success, it works on the PC in the lounge, but when I move to the MVP it doesnt refresh. I had a look at ubustream but it seems that lack of maintainence has made it a bugger to get running on the PC.....and moving to the MVP just adds to the pain.

So I'm after some ideas.....I'm using MVPMC on the MVP I wondered if there were any way I could set up VLC to stream to the MVP.

This covers quite a few forum titles, but I'll post here for now and gauge the response.

I can agree on the MVP/Webcam image refresh thing not working..

McBainUK said he might have a look at it (but he has a lot of projects on the go).

If you're working on the video thing, dont forget some basic MVP rules.. whats going out to it needs to be a mpeg1 or 2 video. VLC can read and convert in-line, but I think you have to have it as a capture source and then mapped over to the tv-channels ('live tv').

What kind of output from the monitor camera ? Is it possible to put an a/v signal into a capture card (like a pvr-150 etc.. cheap). These seem to work with GBPVR (although I havent tried personally).

Using the general mvpmc file system's vlc integration (and not GBPVR) I was streaming web cam asf output to MVP via http so it is possible. It's a pain in the butt to support so I gave up on it years ago.

Quote:What kind of output from the monitor camera ?

It is purley a network streaming device, but I have the following streams available:
RTSP MPEG4 stream: rtsp://192.168.1.104/live_mpeg4.sdp
RTSP MJPEG stream: rtsp://192.168.1.104/live_mjpeg.sdp
HTTP MPEG4 stream: http://192.168.1.104/stream.av
HTTP MJPEG stream: http://192.168.1.104/stream.jpg
HTTP snapshot image: http://192.168.1.104/snapshot.jpg

The snapshot stream works with the webcam plugin (but doesn't update on the MVP), there is also a buch of streams aimed at mobile devices (3gpp from memory or something like that)

you two have basically hit on the 2 ideas I had, 1 to use the external recorder plugin to set it up as a live tv channel, and the other to use the MVPMC VLC interface......sadly my talent (and time to reesearch) runs out after the idea...no idea how to implement.

I only just started my morning coffee here, so I may be way off.. but

I assume you can save the jpg to the hd somehow. What if you made a subfolder in your photos area and then just put that (updating) jpg into the folder. Then use the Photos viewer of GBPVR in slideshow mode, navigated into that folder, so it would just keep calling that photo (since its the only one).
