I recently switched over to the new version from an older version. I seem to remember a tag that had the original air date of a show. The only tag I could find in the the new one that somewhat resembled it was premiere. Will that show the original air date? Very rarely a show will not get tagged as new with the *, so I would use the original air date to tell if it was new. Would changing the new show detection to "Date matches AirDate" be better than leaving it on auto?

Typically, your xmltv listings (especially in North America - mc2xml, SD) will have a <NEW/> tag. UltraXMLTV reads that tag and then adds the asterisk. If your original data doesn't have it, then Ultra has no real way of guessing. Yes, it also compares the Date, and Original date of the show.

IMHO, using Zehd's Picks is a great way to get started. It will also test to see what your XMLTV source is and can make some small adjustments (internally) how it gets the date and NewShow indicator.

I get my epg data from mc2xml. Been using Zed's picks without issue for a few months. I just remember last year a few episodes of the Mentalist were not given the proper * when the show would air for the first time. Guess it was just the data not having that <NEW/> tag. I wonder if it has anything to do with shows occasionally airing in Canada earlier than in the US. Maybe the <NEW/> tag doesn't get put into these shows.

We were looking at that issue. It's pretty much not the problem now. My experience is the few shows that don't work, is some sort of discrepancy in the original guide data. Sometimes a show will be set to have a generic description.

There might be things I could still perfect, but when I hunted before I couldn't find anything that I could fix on my end.
