My personal recommendation would be to get a AMD 780G mobo (or better, 780G came out a year ago so I'm sure there is something better by now), along with the HDD, CPU, RAM, etc needed to make it run. Then all you need is a tuner for whatever type of TV you plan to hook up to (SAT, CABLE, ATSC, QAM...). Haupauge tuners are popular.

A great place to learn about hardware (if not just a good place to overwhelm yourself with information) is the AVSforum.

Good luck and have fun. Smile

Software -- GBPVR 1.4.7 -- Vista Business -- EVR -- ATI MPEG Codec -- FFdshow/AC3filter[/SIZE]

do you want your pc to be as silent as possible or is this not really an issue?

The answer to this question should have a big influence on your purchasing decisions.

I have no idea what your budget it but

HDD: get a 1TB disk. partition say 50GB for OS and gbpvr, the rest for recordings.
CPU: something like an intel 7300 core 2 duo or amd equiv. I think u need a 2Ghz Intel C2D for effective blu-ray playback.

RAM: 2GB

teookie's link to avsforum is recommended reading.

and most importantly, welcome to the gbpvr community!

Quite will be the best solution for me.. I didnt know if I need to use certain equipment since I have Verizon Fios cable.
For the hardware to build for the computer, as long as its mostly upto date Im sure it will be fine, correct? Duo or Quad should be fine Im sure.. as long as Im using a tv tuner.. So Haupauge is the best? I want full HD..

You may need a certain capture device for HD recording from a set top box, as they usually only output via component or HDMI. Many of the capture cards may only have a S-video,RCA,Coaxial input.
