With Video Plugin bits (allegedly) returning with the next GBPVR release, is anybody working on (or planning to work on) a resurrected Caller ID plugin?

If not, I will do so. But no point in me starting one if somebody else is already working on it.

Can't program a lick, but I'd build some sort of stone monument on my front lawn for you if you did a plug-in. Big Grin It's the most missed plug-in of the wife and I from the older versions.

I run an NCID server here, if you do a client that is compatible I'll help you test it!

It's been 5+ years since I had a land line so it won't be me. Big Grin

Have at it.

I can't make that claim - but digging up a 28.8 modem was a bit of a chore. . .

General question -- is anybody aware of a Windows Service based application for collecting and sending away incoming caller ID? NCID is a good start - but I can't, in good conscience, ask people to run a linux box (or andLinux) to run NCIDD (and which, in turn, further requires YAC, if I'm reading this correctly).

I really want something that will just sit and run as a service and barf out CID data as it arrives. But everything that I've dug up so far, with the exception of ncidd, sits in the tray and requires a user to be logged in.

I think it depends on what you want the plug to do. The last one was simply a client that listened for NCID or YAC information and displayed it. The CID server could be local (as you mentioned) or on a network, YAC or NCID and it was up to the user to configure their CallerID server/service to taste.

I run NCID on OS X Server and it broadcasts to several of my desktops. I don't think the Windows NCID server version needs YAC unless you use Cygwin since it doesn't have modem support.

I used YAC for awhile, what is the issue with it running down in the tray? With NVPR launched, it'll be effectively hidden and still doing its job.

It needs a user to be logged in -- so doesn't work for those that want to keep their servers tucked away somewhere where they can't be heard (and may, or may not, even have a monitor attached).

I do intend to follow a similar path as the previous plugin, where is just acts as a client to an external server. NCID has the functionality, but since it isn't a windows app, that's a lot of extra weight just to get caller id. (I can't imagine any documentation that starts with 1. Set up a different OS). YAC works too, but requires a login.

Both are worth supporting, but in addition, I really want a windows service based application as well.

Wow, you'd think it'd be easy to find one since it makes sense. I just spent a half hour looking and nothing. I'll keep looking and let you know if I turn something up!

Heh, I was really hoping to not have to roll my own, but - in the end, did. Maybe I should unleash it as a distinct application, since there seems to be a dearth of such.

Thanks to all that went searching. Not an entertaining task, especially given "service", "windows" and "caller id" are not exactly limiting keywords...
