When i close the program all recordings stop then when i open NPVR again they resume. Is this behavior intended?
The tray icon is always present and that option about Background Recording Services seems to do nothing.

Hav you ticked "Use background recording service" in Settings->Recording?

It sounds like you don't have the recording service running, so when NextPVR.exe loads it loads an in-process version of the recording service; naturally when you exit NextPVR that recording service exits with it. Your NPVR.log will show this behavior. If you actually do have the recording service (NRECORD.exe) running, you may have a firewall blocking communication between the programs.

I think the "Use background recording service" option doesn't do anything now, and sub intends to remove it; it was really only for testing.

Well, you're right, there is no NRECORD.EXE running in my system, or at least it's not showing in the task manager. I took a look at the log as you suggested, but im unable to make sense out of it.

Ok, i looked into NPVR Recording Service Properties and the path to executable NRecord.exe was wrong. Maybe because at first i installed NPVR at the default folder but later, before using the program, i uninstalled it and reinstalled it at a different location.
Well, i fixed this and now recordings keep going after the program is closed. So thanks for the help guys.

the bit you were looking for was this (in your NPVR.log.1):
Code:
[...startup]
2010-07-24 10:02:20.257    [DEBUG][1]    Version: 1.5.24
2010-07-24 10:02:20.257    [DEBUG][1]    SingleInstance()
2010-07-24 10:02:20.454    [INFO][1]    Using local in-process recording service
2010-07-24 10:02:21.563    [INFO][1]    RecordingService.Startup()
Now that you have NRecord.exe running, you'll see it connecting to a remote recording service instead of starting the local in-process service. The startup lines in the NRECORD.log will now show similar lines for starting the recording service.

Glad you've got it sorted. Enjoy.
