N-PVR 1.5.24
Winders 2008 Server
Hauppauge 2250 Dual Tuner - Just running Analog Cable for now

I've been having a hard time getting this set up. I have Sched Direct working with XmlTv, pulling in the files schedules fine. I don't understand how the batch file to update works. I understand I call XMLTV from it to pull, but when does it run? Does it automatically load the schedule?

That's just where I am right now. I have some rather basic features I wish to use in N-PVR.
  • Schedule Recordings, including weekly repetitive shows
  • Once the recording completes, run Comskip to remove the commercials
  • Then transcode the resulting file into Xvid or DivX
  • Name the resulting file in clear fashion using Show Title, Season, Episode Number
  • Place it into a directory, I'll take care of creating NFO's and TVDB stuff

I have an extensive library set up with my existing XBMC(modded XBox, not PC) and another media server. I'll do a weekly processing of the files to pull them into that library, maybe even do some Event Ghost scripts.

Can anyone provide some clear direction on this? I understand the documentation for N-PVR isn't very extensive yet. I try to look at the GB-PVR instructions but this is an entirely new product and it varies greatly. Since I was not a user of GB-PVR, I really have no context to base things off of.

Honestly, with the features in N-PVR, if I get things setup properly, I may end up ditching the XBox in favor of this. I just need to be comfortable with it first.

Thanks for any assistance. If you don't mind, please address as much as possible, not just the initial one or two questions if you have the knowledge.

The only thing you need to have in the UpdateEPG.bat file is a command (or commands) that results in the XMLTV file being updated. NPVR does the rest. It automatically runs the UpdateEPG.bat file at the beginning of the update cycle, which begins at the hour specified in Settings on the General screen. After that NPVR reads the updated XMLTV file, loads the EPG, and schedules all your recurring recordings based on the new data.

Comskip can be called from the ParallelProcessing.bat file or the PostProcessing.bat file (the latter is where I call it). Transcoding can be done in the PostProcessing.bat file; NPVR will automatically detect the resulting renamed file if it's one of the supported extensions, but I don't recall which ones it recognizes.

There's nothing yet for auto-renaming; I believe there was something called WizRenameRecordings or something along those lines for GB-PVR; I'm not aware of it's status for NPVR. You could probably write a batch file to do it yourself; each recording file has an alternate data stream called Metadata.xml that has the show title, episode title, description, etc.; if you are good at parsing and processing data in a batch file you can do whatever you want with it.

If you haven't yet you should read the sticky thread I created at the top of the NPVR Support forum; it's not detailed instructions, but should get you pointed the right way.

I just ran across some discussion here: http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...-for-N-PVR

Towards the bottom of the first page, mvallevand is talking about adding some recording renaming functionality to his plugin. So you may see what you want sooner than later.
