Chapters for MVK and DVD

If it hasn't already been requested I would like support for chapters in MKV files and DVDs (skip ahead and back by chapter).

I would like to bump this request. It will be very useful for a music concert video I have (each chapter is a different song).

With DVDs you can kind of already do this. You can just type the chapter number and press enter. The skip keys dont jump chapters because I chose to be consistant with how skipping behaved everywhere else in the app.

MKV files are a bit more of a problem. This type of file is considered a non-NextPVR file type, so it just asks Windows to play it, and Windows picks appropriate directshow decoders/splitters etc from those available on the machine. This gives us fairly basic playback capabilities, where we can play/pause/skip etc, but the app doesn't know anything about chapters etc. Unfortunately there is no standard implementation for chapters in directshow, so if I was to add support for this, it'd be tied to specific splitter, like Haali or LAV etc, and would use their proprietary interfaces.

I didn't know that about DVDs - thanks.

I don't imagine you would want to tie NPVR to a specific splitter but in case you do I vote for LAV .

On remotes that combine DVD and TV functions, I've seen the Channel Up/Down buttons used for chapter skipping. Perhaps you might implement it on those keys, or alternately on the arrows that aren't used during DVD playback?
