I'm trying to run nextPVR with an AverMedia A188-AF on my PC running Windows 7.

I'm trying to pick up channels from my college's cable TV, but a few channels are missing. I'm able to pick them up fine using a Samsung TV, and I'm sure they are digital channels because they appear in HD.

How can I get nPVR to pick them up? I can only get the Samsung TV to show the virtual channel number. Is there any way I can get it to show the physical number as well?

Do they show up in the software that came with your TV tuner? TV's typically have better tuners than those one PC devices.

They don't show up in the software that came with the tuner. The channels are the same as those that show up in nPVR.

Is there a better tuner that you recommend I buy, which would be able to pick up these channels?

To be honest, I don't know. I'd hate to recommend another device, and you buy it and find the same thing.

Given that your other software gets the same channels, it is mostly likely due to the tuner.

If you can find the info about the physical channel or frequency for these missing channels, it'd definitely be worth us checking the NextPVR logs to confirm we're scanning the right place.

How would I find the info about physical channel or frequency? I've got access to a bunch of TVs that pick up these channels, but I've never been able to find a setting that shows the physical channel number.

I'm not sure. Some TV's tell you that in an information page. Your TV may not have an equivalent.

My Sony and Sanyo TVs display the physical channel for clear QAM channels, for example 18.1. 110.2. I think the TV adds the decimal for each program stream it finds on the frequency, or maybe the decimal is included in the stream identifier. Do you just see an integer, like 4, 23, 45, etc? In what format does your TV show the channel? Is there more than one program on a "channel"?

Unfortunately the Silicon Dust reference does not have the list of channels for my college's cable TV.

The TV does show channels in the format with the decimal, but unfortunately it only shows the virtual channel numbers. I have not been able to find the physical channel numbers from the TV.
