Can anyone confirm for me if Avertv MTVHDDUWB HD Duet (White Box) works well with NextPVR? Also, it says you can use it to record two shows, or watch one and record another.

Can you record 2 shows, and *watch* one of the shows you are recording? It would seem like that should be possible - just setup the tuners to record, then playback the show from the file that one of the shows is being recorded to, yeah?

With my current cable company, I don't think I need ClearQAM, but just in case - is NextPVR able to activate the ClearQAM functionality? I ask because there is a note on the AverMedia website that the ClearQAM functionality apparently does not work with Windows Media Center, but only in AverMediaCenter, and there is also a FAQ on the website that says:

Q: I have installed AVerMedia Center and received a message "Can't Find AVerMedia TV Tuner Cards", why is that?

A: AVerMedia Center from our website does not work with AVerTVHD Duet White Box. It will only work with AVerTVHD Duet Retail. The White Box Version is for Windows Media Center. It will also work with SageTV, BeyondTV or Cyberlink PowerCinema.

All of that suggests to me that the White Box version of that prouct might be a stripped down version that lacks ClearQAM support?

I should probably also note that I have Win7 64 Bit with 8GB of ram (I just saw another thread for a different card, where someone mentioned that the other card might not work well if you have more than 4GB of RAM - is that an issue with this card)?

The device should also work with NextPVR.

Recording and playback options with a dual tuner include:
Record two shows simultaneously while also watching a third show recorded earlier.
Record two show simultaneously and watch one of those recordings while it is still recording (with a small lag of seconds or a minute or two).
Record one show and simultaneously watch a second show Live with no lag.

NextPVR includes a multi-record feature for digital transmissions that allows multiple channels that are on a single frequency to be recorded simultaneously using a single tuner.

Good Luck.

the white box vs retail version functionality with AVerMedia Center is probably just an artificial restriction: if you buy the retail version you're also paying for AVerMedia Center (and whatever codecs are included with it), while the whitebox doesn't include it. They likely use slightly different PCI ID's so that AVerMedia Center can tell them apart. I suspect there's no other difference.

As to whether it will support ClearQAM, I can't say for sure. NPVR supports ClearQAM on devices that use the same method to enable it that Hauppauge devices use. Many devices work this way, some do not. Some require their own software to enable it, others use a registry setting.

Please be aware that this card does NOT support analog channels (regardless of software). So ClearQAM is the only way to receive TV from the cable company, and you'll get only the basic broadcast channels that way.

Thanks. So, I went ahead and got the AverTV card (retail version, not whitebox, as I actually found a retail version cheaper, and most sites were out of stock on the whitebox). I installed it last night, initially tested with AverMedia Center and Windows Media Center, then this morning, setup N-PVR. I can confirm that it seems to be working quite well with NPVR, although I do have a few small issues (which I don't think are related to the hardware, so I'll take them to a different thread in a different forum category).

If I find any hardware related issues, I'll post them as a followup comments in this thread, but for now, I'd say this card is fully compatible with NPVR.
