I think (hope) that this is just a XML escaping issue -- Try using & instead:

<directory path="C:\YOURDIR\Quarks &amp; Co."  min_count="0" max_count="3" />
If that doesn't work, post back and i'll work on a code fix/new version for you.

For all who have this problem too, here is a list of HTML-Entities to substitute signs.

http://unicode.e-workers.de/entities.php

If the HTML-Entity doesn't work, use the Unicode dezimal.
