Hi,
I had NextPVR wokring ok up until about a week ago.
Then one day I tried to start it and nothing happened.
I checked the recording service and it was not running.
I tried starting it manually, got this -
"Windows could not start the NPVR Recording Service on Local Computer. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly"
I tried uninstalling/reinstalling with the same results.

This is on Windows 8.1

What next?

need logs, but I'll wager a guess that your config.xml is zero length or otherwise corrupt.

your instincts do not fail you. deleting config.xml makes npvr happy again. thanks!

I may have to delete that bit about not being clairvoyant from the tech support sticky... I think I'm 4 for 4 on this particular diagnosis.

Just wanted to make a recent post indicating this fix still works. Just had the problem of the service not starting renamed config.xml, and the service started again. Had to reconfig some settings, but that's peanuts to reinstalling me thinks. I'm using Windows 10.

After scratching my head to baldness some years ago I have also learned to recognize that particular issue Big Grin

EDIT: Forgot the point (I'm getting old) I still wonder why the config file looses all its content from time to time.....

In the past it's been associated with running the drive completely out of space. I believe sub put in some fix for that particular cause a couple of releases back, so we've not seen it much for awhile. I'm not sure what else may cause it to go zero-length or contain other corruption (aside from manually screwing it up).

I was having the same issue, with NPVR V3.92, I was getting a message about the database being locked in the web interface, and my PC would not restart the service , nor stop it either. Stumped for a few minutes.
So I thought I would stop the service in service app, but that didn't work either...
So I went into
1. MSconfig and under boot tab, select Safe Mode and apply and restart
2. Disabled the recording service in services,
3. Uninstall NPVR.
4. Install PVR
3. Reinstalled NPVR.
You will get an error message about recording service not being able to start in safe mode. ignore this error message.

4. MSConfig disable safe boot, apply and restart PC
I did not have to open any database editors or readers or anything else to get it to work.
Hope this works for anyone else who is having issues

After rebooting, NPVR should work normally without any errors.
Your channel lineup and recording schedules should work normally.

FWIW I would never recommend your previous post as an easy fix or a good solution. You probably fixed a problem but going to safe mode won't make any difference.
