Hi Sub

Have you had any thoughts of compiling NPVR as a 64 bit Program?

Sometime this year I will be reinstalling the HTPC W8.1 as 64 bit OS rather than 32 bit that it is at the moment. (before W10 free upgrade anyway) Obviously I can still install NPVR as a 32 bit program, but saw somewhere the other day that 32 bit was now considered "legacy" and in particular not really up to 4K, HEVA etc. video rendering.
I know I would have to find a decent 64 bit MPEG2 / H264 Codec that works with the MS demuxer that NPVR uses - At present I am using the PDVD13 Codec from Hoborg which gives by far the best results for TV - and LAV for everything else.
Also of course all the plugins would need updating.

So this is more a "thoughts on the matter" rather than a desperate request Wink
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

While I could do it, I think there is very little chance I will.

I run Windows 8.1 64 bit OS here on my development machine. I can't see any advantage from building a 64 bit version. It'd just make support more complicated, and harder for users to find decoders etc. Just doesn't seem to be any good reason to do it. I've never seen anything indicating 4K, HEVC etc will perform any different on 64 bit.

My mini-wish that is related is that the NextPVR ts reader identify HEVC ts files and either add new decoder selection or perhaps just let the system play them. Some samples here http://www.elecard.com/en/download/videos.html

There is some basic support for HEVC in the next release.

yeah, I think having a 64-bit version would be quite a hassle for the most part with little return, at least until things reach a point where a 32-bit version is no longer needed at all (i.e. about 5 years after microsoft stops selling any 32-bit version of windows, so a rather long time from now)

Thanks for all the replies / comments I am pretty much in agreement with everyone's thoughts here. Will be using NPVR 32 bit for the foreseeable future. (Win 32 or 64 OS)

Perhaps if Microsoft rewrote their muxer so it worked with LAV Filters (or another free high quality 64 bit splitter codec combo) better, then there might be a reason to think about 64 bit.

Good reason to put off ordering that 4k TV this month Big Grin
