Pardon me if I've missed a thread that covers this, but I wanted to know if it's possible to overlap recordings on the same channel when using a single-"tuner" device like a Hauppauge HD PVR 2. I suspect this would mean that the device itself just stays recording the whole time, but the file save process does double-duty during the overlapped sections. Is this possible, and if so, are there any downsides or caveats I should know about?

Alternatively, I suppose I could deal with one large file and split it up later on. The current max padding seems to be 89 minutes in the GUI, but I plan on recording a 5-hour block of a tv show marathon and want to ensure that none of the episodes' beginnings or ends get spread out between two file. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Yes, NextPVR supports this, and should take care of it automatically when two back to back recordings are on the same channel.

Awesome. Thank you for the quick reply.

Do you happen to know if the IR blaster will be ignored in this case? I assume my DVR won't show anything on the screen in the case that the channel is changed to the same one that it's already on, but it seems the safest best if NextPVR just ignores the IR command on all subsequent recordings in the recording block. Not a deal-breaker, but I figured I'd ask.

If the device is already running, and already on the correct channel, then it wont rerun the blaster executable.

Because it doesn't retune, my HDPVR tuning on the same channel is actually faster then my digital devices, including my HDHR. It's not only whether the STB rejects it or not, the USB port can't control the IR and stream data in parallel

Thank you very much guys - good to hear.

I really appreciate what's been done with NextPVR. Like many others I'm sure, I came here after ending up with a Windows 8 system and found that Microsoft had really neutered the basic configuration of the OS (no WMC, no MPEG-2 decoder). That said, I probably would have stumbled here eventually anyway since the HD PVR 2 isn't supported by WMC. For what it's worth, I've got my Hauppauge WinTV 950 getting the OTA stuff and the Hauppauge HD PVR 2 handling the cable, all on one system. The whole thing is really pretty seamless and goes on without much input from myself. Thanks again.
