popups in IE after NextPVR install

Ever since I installed NextPVR, I've been getting two annoying popups in IE: 1) looks like coming from W7 chat support and they know what ISP I'm using; and 2) something about a virus and gives a phone number to call for help. I'm wondering if these are related to ntray.exe, that loads at startup according to msconfig. Two questions: 1) does anyone know how to get rid of these popups?; and 2) is ntray.exe necessary to use NextPVR?

I don't think your issues are related to ntray.exe in any way, but by all means scan it at the virustotal webpage. I know AVG Identity Protection has been known to flag ntray, but frankly AVG hasn't been fit for use for a few years now. You might have acquired malware while looking for an audio decoder. I assume you have run a full antivirus scan. The one program most likely to help in my opinion is Malwarebytes Free.

You definitely have a virus which is nothing to do with ntray or any other component of npvr.

I find the online A/V checker Trend Micro Housecall removes viruses pretty well.

Thanks for the advice. I used MalwareBytes and my problem is gone. Funny my AV didn't detect the problem.

Nope, not needed, can remove it from the startup group.
