My dog was good enough to use a couple of my new in-wall CAT6 ethernet cables as chew toys and the painters wasn't any help either wrecking another one. I didn't want to start on the four jacks I need to redo but my test cable creation is going terribly. I am losing the cable 2 inches at a time and gone through 5 jacks already. In theory wiring one of these little beggars should be easy, but I am going insane try to get the order to stay right

Anyone have any tips?

Martin

Are you using keystone jacks or putting connectors directly onto the end of the cables? I've always used keystone jacks in the wall, then plug in a patch cable to go to the device. I also only use the type of jacks that require a proper punchdown tool to terminate the wires. I've heard too many horror stories about the type that supposedly punchdown themselves when you close the clamshell.

Here's a pretty good video guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRNcLMsFXsI

Thank HarryH3 I actually have some keystones that I want to connect but I don't have a punch too let that will save me two of the connections. Alex maybe I will take you up on it ... if you take my dog back with you.

Martin.
