Hello,
I'm trying to configure NPVR 3.6.6 as a client for another NPVR 3.6.6. In the client, I set
- act as client (checked)
- servername "mypc"
- database share "\\mypc\users\public\npvr\"
In that path is the file npvr.db3. The client says it cannot find the database share. If I right click on the client on the npvr service icon, it lists the tuner configuration of the server.
On the server side, homegroup is not enabled. The wiki states
-
Set the path to the NextPVR data directory on the server. An example might be that your server PC, named "PVR", has a shared folder, "NEXTPVR". You would then enter \\PVR\NEXTPVR as the path for this option. If you are running Windows 7 and have homegroup sharing enabled then it may be already shared as \\PVR\Users\Public\NPVR.

As I do not have homegroup enabled, does it mean I have to manually share the folder NPVR on the network? Which are the most restrictive permissions for this? (e.g. read only, one user per client I want to connect)? Which password protection can I use (if any)?
I tried sharing the folder \users\public\npvr, with sharename "npvr", and changed the database share to "\\mypc\npvr", but get the same error.
edit1:
Hmmm, I cannot access the share via windows explorer also... something with access rights... I probably need to resolve this first...
edit2:
I can seem to make a share for the folder and mount it as a disk in the client computer, but I have no access to the contents. Most likely, this is why NPVR also fails with it... Any suggestions on how I can give a client access to the folder? The folder is shared (with everyone, full control) but another windows cannot access it.
Thanks!
Jörg
