I am using NextPVR 3.6.6 running on a Windows 10/IBM Thinkpad R61 laptop as a backend. For viewing I use the Kodi plugin and run Kodi on an Amazon Fire TV. I have a HD HomeRun Prime with a Cablecard from Comcast. I think they recently stitched to h.264 for HD channels in my area. Everything works fine but I have noticed there is are frame drops when I am watching sports. It's not horrible, but it definitely makes the picture less than smooth. My question is pretty basic- does NPVR backend process the signal before sending it to the client? Even if it is a simple passthrough, would I benefit from upgrading from my laptop even though I don't use it for viewing at all? Or would it make no difference. Thanks!

No, it's just passing through the data sent by the prime.

It depends where your problems happening (network, disk speed, hardware decoder etc). If MPEG2 was working fine, then I'm guessing it's something in the FireTV causing the issue - from NextPVR's perspective, there is is no difference between an MPEG2 or H.264 channel, unless you're trying to watch them directly in NextPVR.

Thanks. I am going to do some troubleshooting on my end. I have my Mac running kodi so I can see if it is a client issue or if I shoul change something upstream.

I am not sure about h264 in mpeg-ts but the FTV doesn't do h/w deinterlacing of mpeg2 so I do expect some stuttering especially in sports.
