import existing recordings

Longtime NPVR user here. Had a catastrophic computer failure this summer, built a new machine and got NPVR running. All is well, except that I have terabytes of old shows that I'd like to import. I have a few copies of recording-backup.xml from pre-failure, but they are incomplete. Are there any tools for scanning the attached hard drives and importing old recordings? Failing that, if I write a script to generate a list of shows and their locations how might I go about importing them? I know I'm asking for a lot here but it would be super cool if I could get the metadata too although since all I have is a filename I doubt that will be possible.

Wow looks perfect! Thanks for the link Martin.
Also, for the record, I did do a search before posting. It's weird, the VideoConduit post only comes up if you search on titles only. Search on entire posts and it's not there, even though the word import is in the post.
