I hope someone can take the time to help me Wink

I have a machine at home that I am thinking about turning into a media centre. Basically all I need to start with (I think) is a TV Tuner card and a graphics card with output to a TV (plus a soundcard upgrade etc), and some software.

A collegue has pointed me in the direction of BG-PVR. I have a really really silly question ( :p ): how do I control the software (change channels, browse TV guides etc) with a remote? Does the remote come with a TV Tuner card, and will this control GB-PVR, or so I need to sort something else out?

Thanks.

Most tv tuner cards come with a remote, I think the most popular TV card brand around here is Hauppauge, all their cards come with a remote APART from the MCE versions, which are designed to work with Microsoft Windows Media Centre Edition (MCE) and its specific remote control and so don't have a remote included in the box.

Look on the main page of the GBPVR website (http://www.gbpvr.com) to see which tuner cards the gbpvr software supports.

GBPVR will receive the remote commands and use them to control the software, making it very easy to control and do the things you talked about.

Hope that helps,

Simon

You might want to check out this article over at byopvr if you haven't already seen it. It gives a good basic description of building a fairly simple and inexpensive system. I based my setup on this and it works very well for the way I wanted to use it.

This article led me to GBPVR. I tried Sage, Beyond TV and CTPVR? and had very little success with any of these three. GBPVR has worked great from the day I first installed it.
