Since the fall tv season has begun, we’ve got quite a few concurrent recordings going on. And have been having lots of issues with “problem” recordings.
This is on my v4 production server, with HDHR Prime tuners, and watching via X-NEWA 2.5.4.
Frequently when we go to play a recording in X-NEWA, the skipping (both comskip auto skipping plus manual arrow skipping) won’t work and you can’t pause the playback. Often when it gets to the end of playing, Kodi will display the Buffering message and just hang there, but sometimes it will go back to the recordings list. Fortunately, pressing the stop button does still seem to work.
I believe that the problem is that during post-padding, NPVR is taking an active tuner and changing the channel for a different recording on a different channel. But the original recording continues to accept data streaming from the HDHR (now from a different channel) and add it to the end of the original file. I know we used to have a similar problem with v4, but I thought that had been fixed a while ago.
I just watched All Rise (recorded 10/7 on channel WCCO). It had the “no skipping/pausing” problem. But then at the end the last 5 minutes (post-padding) has The Good Doctor which was on channel KSTP. You can see from the entries in my recordings.log file, the same tuner (HDHR Prime Tuner 1-1) was used for both shows.
You can download a copy of the full .ts file here.
At this point, I don’t see sub spending any time fixing v4, which is why I’ve been working to move my production recordings to a v5 system. But since that’s not going as smoothly as I had hoped, I’d appreciate it if Martin could take a look at a recording file (and the attached kodi log from playing it). Don’t spend much time on this. I’m just hoping you can confirm, and let me know if you think of any quick/easy ways to get Kodi to better handle these files.[attachment=63]
