Having recently upgraded my TV (to a Samsung 2019 model) I am looking to try to better integrate NextPVR by allowing the application to be controlled via the standard TV remote.

Looking at the Pulse-Eight USB CEC adapter this would seem to do the trick.

As far as I can see there are a couple of options:
  • Native support in NextPVR via CEClib (don't think this is available / integrated)
  • Use a third party tool to translate into keypresses (e.g. EventGhost)
Has anyone had any success using this with NextPVR?

I turn CEC off because of the bad impact it has with all my connected devices turning on and off when I don't want them to.

If you don't want to do any programming the best support for CEC would probably be if you used Kodi as your NextPVR player, natively using the PVR addon or using knewc

Decided to give the Pulse Eight adapter a try. Drivers created an EventGhost plugin which I was then able to use to capture events and translate to keyboard actions that NPVR responds to.

Early days but so far looks positive and allows the TV, Roku and NextPVR all to be controlled via the same TV remote.

I have looked into adding support for it in the past, but unfortunately they didn't have a license that works for "free, but closed source" applications like NextPVR. ie, I could either do GPL and be required to open source the application, or pay big $$$ to get a commercial license. I've tried contacting them again, in case anything has changed.
