Ah I'm on 10.6.4

No JF app on AppleTV, so not using it there.
JF on iOS is also failing when invoking a transcode.

It clearly shows a lot of promise but it's not playing nicely with my clients and not playing nicely with the PVR side of my puzzle either.


If I could just pay £100 for one piece of software that did it all and just worked!

Is this still all working with latest versions of Jellyfin, NextPVR, and the plugin?

It does work with Jellyfin 10.6.4 which is still their latest stable release.

I am running a Jellyfin server on MX-Linux using Martin's Jellyfin NextPVR plugin. Works fine so far.

Last time i tied I could not get Jellyfin 10.7 to work at all.

Thanks for that. As noted, that version of JF seems to have an issue with iOS transcoding (works fine via MrMC)

I was hoping for a JF update that would fix that, but then also still support NextPVR.

As it stands it looks like JF is a dead end for me now as it's unlikely they'll do an AppleTV app.

Works great on the PC though... but I can't put a PC in my pocket, or in the lounge haha.

You understand that each platform uses different software? Think macos, tvos and ios. Android, Android TV (and don't think 8, 9, 10 and 11 are compatible), Windows, 32 and 64, ARM 32 and 64, and Roku.

Then there is client web, phone, tablet, desktop, "TV box". With all these standards you probably see why just works is a pipe dream

AFAIK Kodi is the closest thing to multi-platform but then they run into problems with Apple currently not allowing it on their store.

I digress, back on topic, I don't use jellyfin so I can't really speak to it but it is not a mature product at this stage but it is promising. It needs stronger management.

Occasionally I check the Jellyfin website for progress and I found Jellyfin 10.7.0~rc3 Windows installer. Got it installed on a Windows 10 PC and running with NextPVR plugin from Jellyfin and it is working fairly well. Setup was easy.

Thanks for the update. At this point I am not considering Jellyfin something I wish to consider. I submitted a PR a month ago and have heard nothing back and the addon could stop working in the next version of NextPVR without it.

From the outset this addon has been trouble. Getting the addon submitted took a lot of pushing, and then they wouldn't approve it for 10.6. During 10.7 development their devs' broke the API multiple times and basically implied that NextPVR was too niche with complaints that NextPVR wasn't open source. Also being told that bigger changes were coming for 10.8 just makes it not worth the trouble. Support from Emby is far better.
