What do you use to clean your remotes?  I've always just wiped them down with a damp rag, until now....

My wife is a pretty major germaphobe and she just got over a rare cold.  Now with COVID-19 she's thinking about asking her mom to move in with us (out of the senior living apt. that has now started visitor restrictions).

So she wants to clean everything.  EVERYTHING.  Not that this is a bad thing, but she was going to use a vinegar and isopropyl alcohol concoction to clean the cordless phones and remotes.  I think the vinegar would be a bad idea, and I am wondering how fragile the decals on the remote (above the buttons) and the text/symbols on the buttons might be to a solvent like isopropyl alcohol.

Anyway, I thought I'd see if other had experience with regular disinfecting and the durability of labels on remotes.

Thanks,
-Brad

ps.  This doesn't seem too bad, especially if you can minimize the amount of dampness of the alcohol/water mix the remote see, as described - ?

We use 50% isopropyl but but not as a disinfectant but as a degreaser. The remote in the kitchen is especially bad as grease off kitchen workers hands seems to creep right inside so that we have to take the remote apart to do a thorough cleaning. We do use disinfectant wipes from time to time for a quick job on the surfaces.

As a disinfectant, all health experts I have heard say that soap and water is far superior to alcohol disinfectants. The water can be hot or cold. It doesn't matter they say.

I just use a microfiber cloth and dettol anti-bacterial surface cleaner as it's quite gentle and has never damaged any surfaces that I have used it on.

https://www.dettol.co.uk/products/see-al...-original/

Dettol Antibacterial Surface Cleanser kills 99.9% of bacteria, including E. coli, salmonella, MRSA and the flu virus. The gentle yet effective, non bleach and no taint spray is safe to use where food is prepared and around baby equipment.

I used this way before covid-19 and since but only for the purposes of cleaning, not because of virus concerns as my wife and I have already had the virus...
