Updates should not be scheduled in active times.

Totally understand that and would not normally run updates in active times, but is the only way to keep the constantly changing guide upto date in the UK

For the best experience you need extended guide data. For a cup of coffee a month you can get Schedules Direct data in many countries. Use their free trial and you will be sold on the simplicity and the great integration sub provides

Do you have any evidence that the EPG data actually ever changed to to cover the late changes in programme? Even if the EPG did change there is no way that Schedules Direct could be aware of the change!

This is only TV so I don't expect it to be perfect. The OP didn't follow the forum etiquette and include his country, but if he is losing data quickly I assume it is North America. Our data is very bad and for many channels it is not much more reliable than manual. You won't have new information or s/e information so you would be recording all episodes and I couldn't handle a situation where they decide to run a new show in place of a scheduled show. Networks depend on advertising so they would typically not want to do this, they promote upcoming new shows and specials to get people to watch them.

Certainly SD gets changes on shows announced for a 24 hour period, through Kodi testing on deltas I noted many coronavirus specials included I I do my updates at 7am to get the data closer to the period I use the data. The best example that impacts me is sporting events for playoffs get their teams updated.

Even with perfect data I have 16 OTA channels and that means I lose a tuner for 16 minutes which is not something I suggest during prime time, or every two hours which is what I would need I have recorded shows that were preempted and may have lost a show I can't remember.

As jcjefferies asked above,do they ever really update the listings though? I don't think I've ever really seen a country update their DVB EPG when things change. I'm sure they import the expected schedule once or twice a week, and when unexpected stuff happens, like some government coronavirus update, the guide data is just wrong and not corrected. (This is definitely how it is here in New Zealand)

It isn't supposed to interrupt a tuner that is already in use, but some one posted a log yesteday that indicated that isn't working correctly in the current build. I've added it to my list of things to check out, but I'm not sure of the cause yet. In the meantime, just don't update the EPG when a tuner is in use.

As a UK user, I don't see the EPG being updated when there are last minute change to the programmes/times. Updating the EPG daily overnight is about the best you'll get.
