I remember that V5 now stores metadata in a .xml file alongside its related recording. Are there any cautions about deleting these files after the recording is complete but keeping the recording?

v4 did this too when it wasn't able to create the ADS copy. My feeling is they don't hurt anything other then using a extra block of data on the drive and can help if you lose the database. The ADS copy used the same storage so you won't notice it.

Are theses files necessary to import recordings if I lose the database?

NextPVR expects these files to exist ... How will you know which current ... and future ... functionality will be broken (for you) if you delete them?

I rarely use NextPVR to delete recordings. Will NextPVR playback suffer if I delete the .xmls?

Is it necessary, no. It really depends on how much being able to recreate all the recording table metadata including the duplicate prevention information is worth to you, and how much it bothers you to see a file in Window explorer.

It is not like the timing.info information that could help playback.

OK...but

It's my take that if these data are essential for correct NextPVR full functionality, now or in the future, they should not be exposed and should be moved elsewhere, like the database. No?

NextPVR v5 doesn't even have a method to open the file. All the information in the file is already in the database. Keeping it with the file makes sense, if the file is lost the xml file will probably be lost too.

OK, that makes sense, Martin. Thank you for clearing that up.
