In no way do I consider this an error. Like I said I prefer one tuner, because it would have made my stitch utility better, but sub's idea is that live tv users are potentially in and out of channels and this often lets them quickly use one tuner, rather then detaching and finding another tuner.

It is only an error if you can't record/watch 3 shows at once.

Martin...the error is that I should be be able to use all tuners at all times. V5 decreases that functionality by arbitrarily using a 2nd tuner when it doesn't need to. All Ctrl-k operations should split the tuner output to the disk.

I have just looked at this in V4 ... What happens in V5 if <ReversePriorityForLiveTV> is set to False in config.xml?

@Martin: V5 can be made to reduce record/watch 3 shows at once to two with the same channel occupying two tuners instead of one. What aren't I making clear?

With recordings there is no issue. With live tv I wanted you to duplicate the scenario I tried to unsuccessfully explain to sub, where a user could get unnecessarily booted out of live tv when the tuner is needed.

Ultimately the logic was what Martin mentioned above - I was working on the assumption the user would likely continue to change channels, so it was better to do the recording on another available tuner if possible.

This logic hasn't really changed in v5 (though NextPVR v4 did behave slightly different if you were set to EPG Based timeshift mode).

Graham's suggestion above to set <ReversePriorityForLiveTV> to false might give you the behaviour you were hoping for.

@Graham: Great call! Now works like V4 with ReversePriorityForLiveTV=false. Full tuning/recording capability. Me happy!
