I installed the Android client on my Google Chromecast with Google TV but seem to be having issue with navigating.

It seems that I don't always get a cursor when selecting things like recent recordings and pick a video so I cannot seem to click the watch buttom.

In all Recordings I was able to select and watch a video but after I clicked right to skip ahead, I was unable to get the video to start playing again.

Obviously the minimal buttons on the remote are an issue.

I was using Kodi to play the recordings from its video menu but that does not mark them as seen or remember where I was in case I try to finish watching on another TV.  I am having trouble getting XNEWA to work on it because I cannot seem to figure out how to SSH into it to set up the advancedsettings xml to substitute the paths like I did on my Firesticks that Run Kodi/XNEWA.

I am going to see if can get a bluetooth Keyboard remote working to see if that helps.

Has anyone else tried using the app on this device?

The Android app does have some issues that sub needs to looking into. Ultimately it is more designed for touch devices where it works great.

Why not simply run kodi pvr.nextpvr on your Chromecast?

I am using a usb hub with the new chromecast with a USB hub for wired ethernet, and have a USB remote with a lot of keys. I like having numbers.

I am using Kodi on it, but in KNEWC I can get the web interface but the videos don't play, likely because I am using Linux server and need to create the path substitutions in Advandesettings.xml but I can't figure out how to SSH to the Chromecast.  On Firestick I used ES FileExplorer to be able to access with Putty but that wasn't available when I tried to seach in Apps.

I am trying to set up a USB hub as well but can't seem to get it to see the extra USB storage.  I may see if I can get a USB remote to work too.

I've been just using Kodi directly to play the recent videos like the nightly news. If you recall, I have an extremely huge database of recorded videos and I'd like to have the database get updated with what I watched as we start going back to catch up on some older series that I am a couple years behind on watching.

I suppose this might be better in your subforum for KNEWC.

Thanks.

(2020-12-02, 01:56 AM)FYI, I was able to figure out an app to allow me to transfer files via a web browser to the Chromecast and I got the advancedsettings.xml, password.xml and sources.xml files set up on it to get XNEWA to play the videos now.I also got a RII bluetooth keyboard to work with it.  You mentioned you got a USB keyboard working.  Is there a key that translates to the back button in the GoogleTV interface?  I thought it might have been ESC or Backspace but neither worked. If I can get that key working I might be able to play a little more with the Android client as well.ThanksSteveTyrakowski Wrote:

I use this one and that uturn key on the remote under volume - does a back for me.  It seems to generate an esc.   This doesn't help with the Android focus issue on recordings I have to turn on the gyro mouse.

2020-12-02 20:44:05.801 T:21464  DEBUG <general>: CInputManager::HandleKey: escape (0xf01b) pressed, trying keyboard action

I will try on chromecast tomorrow.  I have an RII bluetooth somewhere and I will charge it and try it too.

Are your issues with Back in the NextPVR Android app or knewc?

If you trying to use the Back key to stop video that isn't how it works in Kodi, because Kodi allows video to play in the background. I know that's an issue with my remote since it doesn't have a stop key so I use the X on the back. The context menu can also be configured to stop video. That all being said I hope my knewc update 2.9.1 might address this better too.

In Knewc I have usually had to hit the enter button on the remote and move to the stop icon to quit a video.  Mostly the issue was for navigation, but it seemed like the ESC key worked in KNEWC like the BACK button but outside of Kodi, I was not able to find a key on the RII that worked like the back key.  I know that's not a nextpvr issue but was just curious if you had run across it since you said you used a USB keyboard, but as I see your remote has the U-turn back button which is not on the RII.

Don't waste any extra time on it.

I really like the new Chromecast but just like the firetv stick these sparse remotes can be a challenge.  In KNEWC navigating my videos is not practical without the RII keyboard to be able to hit the 1-9 keys.  At least with the firetv remote I could use the context menu option that you added so I could virtually hit the 1-9 shortcuts, but the pageup/down thing stopped working.

Thanks

I think that uturn key is just the left arrow on the chromecast remote. On my Rii BT keyboard the Back and the ESC both do just that with the Chromecast and now they stop video too.
