Win 2000 or XP?

I have bought some new hardware, and are planning to do a clean OS and GB-PVR install. I will use the computer for GB-PVR only.

Currently I am using Win 2000 professional, but I also have XP Professional. Are there any views on which OS I should use for my GB-PVR box? Are there any advantages of using XP instead of Win 2000?

i would use win xp, just turn off all the pretty stuff to speed it up, its easier to set up with gbpvr.

Personally my own opinion is 2K. Think its more stable than XP, faster than XP. Thats my view, if I didn't have to install XP pro for Pinnacle Mediacenter, I would have stuck with 2K definately. Still thinking about going back.

Onestar is the first person I've ever heard who said 2000 was more stable. I've heard exactly the opposite. From what I've read, XP was built on 2000 - simply adding new, better, faster features.
But I'm not a programmer.

I prefer XP. XP is rock solid for me.

Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional basically are the same except for:

Graphical: - XP Wins
Speed: - XP Wins
Memory: - XP Wins
Out of the Box Hookup with today's devices: - XP Wins

I'd have to take issue with the graphics. They feel like they are out of toytown. Speed..nah,

last part probably true, although I have a USB2 device it won't recognise, that W2K never showed as question mark.

And I hate its "let me lead you by the hand" mentallity. ooo ooo your drive is nearly full, it is really, honest, I know you know, but I better remind you again, oh and again....incase you forgot arrrrghhh. (regedit to fix)

2k will require less overhead for memory/resources, but XP will get more multimedia attention as time goes on. It will also be supported better as time goes on, and you never know what new plugin will need the lastest and greatest.

If you have > 1.75Ghz/512Mb, and like keeping your growth options open, then you may as well go XP.

Windows Server 2003 Standard - Some say you can run GBPVR on it, might give it a try with it..? Much quicker than any Windows OS Server so far though.

Personally, I prefer 2K over XP. I have GBPVR running on a 2K machine with 256Meg, and it runs rock solid. Only time that system has been rebooted in the last several months is when there was a power failure. Can't say the same about the Win XP Pro SP2 machine that we have, it is constantly needing to be rebooted.
