Hi, I have a particular IPTV provider where I am seeing high CPU usage while recording (3xcores @ 100%, which is the limit I give the container). I have No thumbnails, and Prefer No Transcoding. I have other providers and I do not see this on any of the other ones.

I see this line with the verbose logging on:

Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (h264 (native) -> h264 (libx264))

Which seems to mean that something is transcoding.

Is there something I am missing that is causing this transcoding? I would like to try and just capture the stream in whatever format it is (h264) with no transcoding if possible.

Please ignore the VAAPI errors. I tried it and got some errors, but would rather just not transcode.

I am seeing the same thing I saw here https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid600384 and your main provider is the same

2025-05-03 18:33:11.013 [DEBUG][11] abandoning direct connection due to content-type: text/html

Your provider must not like something about NextPVR's direct request so ask your provider when they are redirecting to educationdreamers11.space.

Thanks for the reference to that other thread. I will reach out to the provider.

The only difference I am seeing is sometimes there is a redirect to another URL following "abandoning direct connection due to content-type: text/html" that is successful, but leads to a transcoded stream. Do you have any idea what that fallback mechanism is and what is going on there?

Whatever is causing the scenario your providers links to that text file. Because it isn't a valid web playable video format NextPVR sends it to ffmpeg for transcoding. It seems in your case ffmpeg is able to connect. My gut says it has something to do with using XC logins and how NextPVR handles direct connections to that provider.

Do you know if there is anyway to short circuit the second stream call to ffmpeg (the one that gets transcoded) and just dump the stream? I am just wondering if there are any hidden config settings for that.

Thanks again for taking a look!

No but better to find out what your provider doesn't like, perhaps a head request
