Archive isn't automatic.

Documentation is a user responsibility and no one has stepped up since Graham gave us a the fantastic start. The feature was lightly document in v4 https://web.archive.org/web/201701261604...rdingpopup but it changed in v6 as on option under manage on the hidden menu screen in recordings.

Feel free to submit documentation updates for this feature and I will put it on the wiki.

My familiarity with NextPVR is nowhere good enough to write documentation.  I can understand users creating documentation as features are added and the basic tenents are there, but how does a user even know how to use a feature without documentation?   To be honest, I find that out by doing a Google search, which often results in reading a post with the name "Martin" on it...   Smile

I guess I wouldn't call Manage a hidden menu.  I knew it was there but had no idea that Archive would move a program from one drive to another AND make it accessible from within NextPVR.   To me, archive means pit it in a place where you cannot easily access it again without jumping through hoops.  I figured adding another recording directory might be the way, but have no idea what it does.

Of course I had no idea where the default location was. But I searched and found it, M drive root directory.  Now have to figure out where to change that.

Sorry I forgot. Archive is on the hidden menu (home key) and also on the Manage pop up. I use the hidden menu force of habit.

Ooh that's a useful thing to know Martin. I'm almost happy with my new machine but I deliberately added in a SATA HDD specifically for long term (archiving) some recordings and I haven't explored this yet. I'll try it out and try to document my experience.

Cheers,
Brian

Getting there. Awaiting one more component coming today to finish.

So if I setup multiple recording directories, when I go and setup a show to be recorded, is it going to ask me which directory I want to put it in? I see in the documentation that you can have it pick the directory that has the most space available, but what if you don't pick that option?

Since I copied the installation from the old PC, I'm going to just move the programs over from the hard drive once I get the NVMe setup, so since it's still the same drive "M", I have to nothing but copy over the shows (I already did the config file and the recorded show list is showing just fine, haven't moved the content).

I'm going to start out with NextPVR content on the NVMe, and put movies on the USB hard drive, and only power it on when I want to watch a movie. If the NVMe starts to get full, then I will explore the Archive feature.

You can assign the directory on the recording dialog. But you have to add these extra directories first.

It's all setup and running fine. Haven't played with Archive or with the multiple folders yet.

Still have an audio / video timing issue at times. Watched the news, fast forwarded over the thumbnails, hit center button to Play, and it's wildly out of sync. Hit Stop, then Resume, and it's fine. Since it plays fine in VLC, as before it's clearly a NPVR issue. With a new computer, Windows 11, and fresh LAV files, can't imagine what else I could try.
