scart signals

Anyone out there know much about scart cables and signals in them? My TV set seems to "broadcast" whatever I'm watching. It broadcasts this on the scart socket, so if I connect something through scart I can see it (or hear it, if I connect it to my amplifier).

This is all fine, and I guess most sets do this. What I don't like, however, is that the tv continues to broadcast the last viewed channel, even if I select the scart input on my tv set. So, say I watch channel 5, and then I switch to scart input on the tv, wanting to watch a dvd. Then I get the dvd picture on the tv, but channel 5 seems to go out through the scart and sort of "bounce" on back from the dvd player, so I get a vague but still noticable ghost picture of channel 5 :-(

I don't get this on my other scart socket. This is however connected to my gbpvr box, and it has an in/out switch on the scart contact.

As I see it, there are two reasons for this. Either it is that my gbpvr scart cable is of higher quality, or it is because it has the in/out switch :-) Which one of those would you guys guess on?

I've got all sorts of scart cables, in/out switches, 21pin gold vs cheapo supermarket ones, and have NOT seen anything like this, except on 1 tv. (I am using all of the scart and non-scart cables I have !!)

A philips tv, connected to a SONY dvd player. If I played a dvd and the dvd was quiet, I could hear the channel coming through. The only solution I had was to change the channel to a blank non-tuned channel and then play the dvd. It only happened on this TV, nothing else has ever shown this, and I put it down to a faulty TV. The dvd player is elsewhere, and haven't noticed this there.

Now if it is actually cross talk, then you input output switch at the TV level should clear that up. And to be honest I never even thought about the cable, simply because never shown up elsewhere.

This is a Philips TV, allright :-) The DVD player is an LG, and this also happens when I connect my old DVD player or a digital cable box, so I'm pretty sure it's not one of the peripherals.

If I switch to a non-tuned I actually get a ghost image of the white noise, making the image fuzzy. Even more annoying. I guess I'll try with an in/out switch. Sometime. I've had the tv for three-four years now... since I haven't done anything about it yet, I guess you understand how huge a deal this is for me ;-)

I've had the tv for three-four years now... since I haven't done anything about it yet, I guess you understand how huge a deal this is for me ;-)

Oh yeah, fully understand. Although in my case it was a faint background voice/noise, it was so much more noticeable and annoying when you realise its there, even to the point where you end up trying to hear it!!

The only reason I can think that the in/out switch might work is that if it is cross talk noise, or reflection, is that the output from TV will not make it down the cable then. If its internal to the TV then, don't know what you can do. Strange its a philips tv too :confused:

If you want to disable the wires for the return Video and Audio you'll have to disconnect Pins 1, 3 and 19 (at the side of the TV).

HenkH, thank's. It works =) Three years of suffering (well, being a bit annoyed, at least) is now over :-) Cutting nr 19 did the trick :-)

Well then I'll remember that when I use the Philips next time
