WinTV GO Support

Hey all -- I have a WinTV GO PCI card, pretty old....will it work wit GB-PVR??...it isnt listed as supported by the site, but nearly every Hauppauge card is so maybe this one too??.....

you would have to use the software compression plugin (http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=2753) since its not a hardware encoder card. i suggest you buy yourself a new card if you are serious about a pvr, the pvr150 is a good cheap card.

all i want this thing to do is record tv on a scheduled time, i wont be watching and recording at the same time, nor doing timeshift stuff, do you think that card will be adequate?

nah, you really need a hardware card.

sorry to be abother, tried to grab you on IRC but you werent in gbpvr.....this PC is totally standalone, its just gonna be hooked up to a TV and recording every once and a while....is the software encoder undesirable for speed or quality reasons? speed i can deal with cause of the sole functionality thing.....quality i guess i do want....and are the recordings done with software encoder viewable through gbpvr?

yes they are viewable, yes you should be able to get it to work using the software compression plugin, but since its software it needs to use your cpu to encode it which means if you cpu is being used by something else the recording can become extremely jerky and unwatchable. have a go with the software plugin, but i do recommend you get a hardware based card, they use about 2% of your cpu and never suffer from jerky recordings etc.

thanks a bunch man....just finished a weekend of case assembly/building, bout to try it out tonight, didnt want to give up just yet....ill give the software a run and prob end up switching to hardware for the future.....thanks again!!
