In general, AMD64 are better for games, but Intel is usually better for encoding video.
What's more important to you?
If you wish to transcode stuff on the machine (when your're not playing games), stick with Intel. I have 2 machines at home, one is an Athlon64 3500+ with 1GB of Ram (DDR400 CL2.5) and a SATA disk. The other is a P-4 1.8GHz with 768MB of DDR266 ram CL3 and IDE disks. They take about the same time to encode videos if all parameters are the same.
However, the AMD is great for the games I play.
Hope I helped.
Probably made things worse :-)

AMD 64. It'll do the games, and is plenty fast for video work too.
Intel may (I totally disagree) be better for video work, but not so good (compared) as AMD for gaming.
Pricewize, AMD has Intel beat easily.
A 3500+ (or faster), on a good mobo (NForce chipset), with a GIG of RAM.
You can never have enough tuners!

@reboot: I totally agree with your recommendation. I saw quite a few benchmarks where Intel was better for encoding, only encoding. But AMD64 is definitely the King for games, and has nothing to be ashamed of for anything else.

Nope. The half-sized cache on the Sempron isn't worth it.
For a multitasking machine, go for the A64.
