Some people have downloaded comskip version 0.76 from my server.
Please note that it is NOT for general use. It contains a ini file optimized for very specific broadcasting conditions.

You can use the 0.74 ini file for the 0.76 release however.

Within a couple of days I will release version 0.77 after beta testing by a couple of nice people helping me to test also in the USA.

This version will add a debug window showing the detailed outcome and progress of the analysis helping you to tune in an easier way.

erik. Would you please create a wiki page for the comskip utility and maybe the other utilities that you have. I truely never know which is the latest good version to use.

Thanks Smile

I was not sure if my humble efforts are worthy a wiki page so I did not dare to touch the current Comskip wiki page.

I will do so now and at the same time be carefull to tell people looking for USA specific performance to consider the stable 0.64 version from Jere

wow, comskip is working really nice now! i use it every day now.

one thing for future ad-detection: could something like a trailer-detection be added? i don't know how this is in other countries, but here in germany we often have programme trailers at the end of a commercial. also, the movie, series is "rewinded" sometimes....can this be detected?

just an idea....

Its indeed my goal to remove these trailers.
That's why I introduced aspect ratio based cutting.
To speak for myself. I am able to remove all commercials and "almost" all trailers.
I also automatically remove the last part of the previous show if that did run late and I remove the start of the next show at the end of the recording.
Because I use a networked UPnP media player for playback that automatically starts the next film after finishing a film my family complains they have no more time to get some drinks during the evening Smile

What do you mean with 'rewinded'?

if comskip does not detect and remove your trailes it would realy help me if you can edit a mpeg for me that shows part of the commercial, the trailer and then the start of the actual show with at least 1200 frames with logo in the show (of there is a logo).
PM me for upload details.

yes, this works. except the end of the recording...

what i mean is, sometimes the last few seconds before a commercial starts (lets say 30) are shown at the end of the commercial. so there is an overlap of about 30 seconds. i don't know if this is a german problem or if it exists in other countries too.

i'll send you some piece of recording the next time i record something.

thanks for the help!

Hi erik,

because the latest gbpvr has the built-in ability to run a comskip process during a recording, would it be possible that the results appear in the "recording.txt" file just in the moment comskip detects a commercial? My comskip 0.71 writes out the textfile after the recording stops.

And yes, i have the problem with the annoying trailers at the end of a commercial break, too, just like dottore (i'm also from germany). Commercials are found fine, but I think the problem is that the channel logo already appears during those trailers.

The new version will have a switch that could help to solve this but it has to be tested very carefully.
For the moment no simple solution except you could test without logo processing. (Subtract 2 from the detect_method)

Mmmmm
Its did work in the past, it could be possible in the future but at the moment I have chosen a different approach and that is because I am doing some global analysis which indeed only can be done when the total recording has become available.

Maybe generating lesser quality intermedidate results would help you but i hesitate to put much effort in it. I only use comskip to generate results for comclean, and we only ever watch the clean recordings because we do not use the gbpvr box for playback, our cpu is too slow and it makes too much noise

If generating intermediate results is important to you you may may consider using version 0.64 and enabling the live_tv=1 switch in the ini file.
