I introduced an MVP to my system about a month ago. When I first got it, it would play for about 15 minutes then drop the connection and get stuck on the connecting to server screen. If we unplugged it for 10 minutes it would reconnect for another 15 minutes (approx.) and drop the connection again.

I changed some setting on the GBpvr server and it seemed to work good for a couple weeks. I followed some of Tipster's recommendations and just made sure that the server was set up correctly. Now it's back to dropping the connection again. When the MVP has been off for any length of time, it connects quickly.

My MVP is connected via a 25ft. straight through patch cable to an eight port Linksys switch. The GBpvr is also connected to the same switch. The Hauppauge services are disabled. My Netgear wireless access point / internet router is acting as the DHCP server.

I called Hauppauge support this morning and described the problem I was having. The technical support guy emailed me a link to the latest MVP software that hasn't been posted to their site yet.

I'm confused on whether or not the Hauppauge MVP software needs to be installed or not. I believe I've read that it does *AND* that it doesn't. I'm wondering if the software he sent me will upgrade the firmware on the MVP, or if it will even be relevent considering that I'm using GBpvr and not the Hauppauge server sofware.

Thanks,
Daris

Not sure about your problem, but the Hauppauge software only *needs* to be installed if you want to watch AVI's as gbpvr uses the hauppauge software to transcode the AVI to MPEG in realtime.

Otherwise, the only other Hauppauge component that's used by gbpvr is the file dongle.bin, which gbpvr provides in the gbpvr/dongle subdirectory. When gbpvr mvp services are enabled and the hauppauge ones are disabled, it's this dongle.bin file that gets loaded to the MVP when it's powered on. You can replace the one in gbpvr's dongle directory with a newer one supplied by Hauppauge, but the one gbpvr delivers is the one that seems to be the most stable. Back it up, replace it and then power off the MVP to load the new one if you want to test it.

Good luck,
Tim

Ooo, I noticed you have the D3 MVP. This one is known to overheat and possible even pose a fire hazard due to a manufacturing defect. (D3A is ok) Maybe it's the overheating that's causing your trouble.

From what I've read if you contact Hauppauge's tech support, they've been quick to replace them. No personal experience with this... just what I've read.

Yeah, I had read the same thing. The guy I talked to at Hauppauge didn't even ask about the hardware version. Maybe I need to make another call and phrase it differently.

I upgraded to the latest version of GBpvr last night, but that did not help (not that I expected it to). I called Hauppauge again this morning and made a point to stress that I was having trouble with a D3. This time around the support tech offered to replace it with a new unit.

Thanks everyone,
Daris

I have not tested or used. Used at your own risk.

I have tried this version of the dongle.bin before and it does not like working with the current version of GBPVR....at least on my machine.

The first time I tried it I got aspect ration issues on the MVP when watching videos. This time it loaded but I was not able to navigate anywhere....it just kept locking up. Tried powering off and on but same thing each time.

After reverting to the dongl.bein that is inclued with GBPVR all is well again. The version that is included in GBPVR is from March and this version (as well as the current beta version on the hauppage site) are from June.
