i was having problems with the zapimort reallly 'zap'ping my resources and mucking up my recordings so i looked and found this *freeware* process prioritizer...ThreadMaster and it works like a charm! zapimport used to peg the cpu out at 100% for long periods of time goofing anything recording at the time..but this file watches the processes and smacks down anything hogging over a certain threshold...with exceptions of course...you should probably add gbpvrrecordingservice.exe and gbpvr.exe to the exclude list in the registry and i changed the MainSampleTime to 10..[its lowest,10 secs averaging] wish i could get it lower..like 2. Smile but it works great for anything else that goes ballistic..
you can adjust the % of time each ap gets if specified manually or use a global setting..really nice if your apps aren't "playing nice" Big Grin

ZapImport is a resource intensive app.....best thing is to run it like 4:00 a.m. when nothing is being recorded....then you don't have any issues if something is recording. If you don't want to install software to manage threading then this is the path to take.

I think the overall impact has to do with the processor of the machine and the available RAM. I can record 2 shows, burn a CD, be watching TV (without hardware decoding) and run ZapImport and I have no issues. My configuration is in my signature.

I know jorm is adding the use of the Mutex class when loading the zapdb.mdb file.....this will not help the processor usage but it does force single threading of the loads which has been causing some people problems.

cool...that should help..yea it is processor related as my motherboard blew up and i had to downgrade processor speed quite a bit...i thought it may be of use to multi mvp owners for dvd watching with multiple vlc's running and such..
wish there were more control in winblows for such things...Big Grin

So if the sample time is 10 seconds, won't your recordings get hosed if the CPU is pegged that long anyway? Maybe not as much of it, but it seems you'd really need something that limits the thread from pegging the box, period.

Is it possible to just lower the priority of the ZapImport process so that everything else has precedence and can interrupt it, like ShowAnalyzer runs?
