I have PlayOn running on my A110s using running from a media source on the PCH 'GUI' (sort of -- flaky due to the old firmware. Let me know if you need any beta testing of the Universe Plugin.
I've made a change for the PC playback in the next release so that the PluginHelper PlayVideo() API should do the equivalent of GraphEdit's 'Render URL' if the filename starts with 'http'.
@cooper43 this doesn't use any new firmware features on the PCH, in fact at this point the improvements they have made don't help with PlayOn, you can navigage in deeper but it hangs. I actually started this plugin out of frustration and I doubt I have spent 8 hours on this including figuring out UPnP via Google.
My Playon trial has expired and so this work is on hold while wait to see if they provide a developer copy, but I thought I'd let some of you see what I am working on as is while I am on hold. You might be able to give some feedback on UI changes.
No installer yet, just create a Universe directory in the Plugins folder and copy in the two DLL's. You can install the skin in Skin\Universe but if you have WebRadio installed it will use the WebRadio skin (they are the same).
The way it works is rough because there is no NPVR integration yet. Video's will launch Windows Media Player (actually images do to, I don't what I will do with them later) but audio plays in the background ok using DirectX. Only stop is supported as a key. I don't pre-cache images so navigation can be slow.
No real PCH support beyond navigation, I've hacked in playback that works but it is not ready for prime time.
Tested so for with (UPnP servers can be on any machine in your network)
- PlayOn
- Windows Media Player 11's built in library
- Fuppes (meta images had to be disabled)
- Serviio
- TVersity (I couldn't get their free Google working with any UPnP client)
From client NPVR setups it might be interesting setting up WMP or Serviio to using your Recordings directory to see how this performs.
As a follow-up to my last post MediaMall support say sorry but developers have to pay too, so for now I will have to leave this to people who have trial or full PlayOn installed to try and comment on before I commit any further (read $40) to do PlayOn premium work. I will install this on another PC if whurlston says he needs me to tweak something for Netflix.
Perhaps a few of us keenly interested in seeing this all work could each toss a few quid your way? Could we donate to sub using the established method and tag it "for Universe development"; then he could send the accumulated donation on to you? Or would that be too messy?

Actually Yankee greenback's would be preferred, but at this stage I'd rather pass the buck so to speak onto potential users to see how if it works first. In that way I'm not obliged to provide PlayOn support and I build a support team rather than imposing my design on everyone.

I'll join the list of contributors to see this developed further as well.

martin,
I've searched but cannot find your Universe plugin.
Wouldyou be so kind as to provide a link - I have gotten nPVR running on a separate machine - and I'd like to try Universe with PlayOn & Netflix
