Are there basic tradeoffs to think about between the two approachs? One of my requirements is to support the playing of my MP3 library, and this 1000 seems to cover both. What advantages would a setup with a graphics card with svideo have over the 1000?

With the MediaMVP, you can have it next to the TV as the wired AV source for your TV (Receiver/TV) whatever your setup is and it'll run GBPVR.

With your PC and a TV out video card, the PC becomes the AV source for the TV (Receiver/TV) whatever your setup is and running GBPVR which pretty much sticks your PC next to your TV.

In general, I'd say there's little difference in the picture/audio quality with either route. And either route will play your MP3s as well.

It will truly depend on your individual needs and wants and budget.
