if you have a 16:9 display, you really should set a 16:9 resolution such as 1600x900 or 1920x1080 or 1280x720. the npvr tv shape parameter really only affects the way it displays video (but should nonetheless be set according to your display's physical aspect ratio, NOT your resolution). if you're running a 4:3 resolution (1024x768), the TV is stretching everything to fill the widescreen display; that actually makes no difference for video (as long as the npvr TV Shape is set right), but does make the text display incorrectly.

oh, jumping back to your question about replacing the HVR-1600... if you have no interest in analog, I'd suggest an HVR-1250(pcie) or HVR-1100(pci). both include a standard hauppauge 45-button remote control, which is most likely exactly the same as the one you have.

Good work!, your Guide-4x3.xml fixed the problem. The day of the week is truncated, but the same day and date is just above on the top right corner, so who cares? See attached screen shot which is not representative of the TV Guide aspect ratio as it appears on my TV Screen. My 16:9 TV Screen is completely filled by the TV Guide, so it is appearing as 16x9. THANKS.

My computer does not have a PCI Express slot. I have not seen the model 1100, but will try again to find one. I have found a model 1191 which is a usb stick version that uses a credit card remote control. Also there is a model 1191but it's specifications are remote control for a Blaster or Cable box. I called the Hauppauge company in New York today, but the company was closed because of the big snow storm today. Glad I'm in Florida! Anyway, is there any provision for mapping or interpreting the received codes differently in NPVR?

actually I meant HVR-1150, which is model 01288: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/d...r1150.html

the model 1191 is the HVR-950Q which is essentially the same as the HVR-850 I use except it has QAM support. I'd always rather have an internal card where possible - I only have the 850 because I'd already used my sole PCIe slot for the HVR-1250, and the HVR-1150 didn't exist at the time.

with most (non-mce) hauppauge remotes, you can add the commands you need to the irremote.ini (that's a hauppauge file, you won't have it until you get the hauppauge ir program installed). there's a thread that covers some of that linked in the npvr sticky (it's mostly about changes needed from a setup working with gb-pvr, but if you read that you'll get the idea of how to set it up). Eventghost also has a hauppauge ir plugin.

Very helpful, Thanks. I ordered another WinTV-HVR-1600 which is listed with model 1181 and 1199. Those Hauppauge model numbers are very confusing because I thought they had to do with different hardware like the tuner card and remote control. The HVR-1600 is listed with models 1181, 1199. It turns out the only difference is that model 1199 is shipped with an English manual and the 1181 with a French/English manual. Internet vendors generally don't distinguish so I was worried about getting a remote at all, and/or different hardware! Hope that feedback helps somebody.

OK, now my question. I heard a while back that Schedules Direct was not supported, but would be in the future. I subscribed to it back in November and would like to try it. Is Schedules Direct now supported, and how do I switch to it?

No one is really familiar with these Hauppauge four digit product codes, so its hard for people to answer questions related to them.

Most people are more familiar with model names like 'HVR-1600', which comes in 'Retail' or 'MCE' versions (with different remotes etc).

It is supported as of 1.5.36. It's just another EPG option on the Channels screen in setup; before you had the choice of DVB/ATSC Broadcast or XMLTV, now Schedules Direct is a third option. Just edit the details of your first channel, select Schedules Direct, put in your name and password (you may need to hit OK at this point to make it load the schedules direct lineup(s), then go back in). Then you can select the lineup and map your channel. Once you've done the first one you can do the rest in Bulk Map.

In the release notes sub did caution users about trying to switch to Schedules Direct on an existing setup, but several people have reported no problems doing so. I had no problem myself when I fiddled with it, but did have some trouble with the Schedules Direct website (having nothing at all to do with NPVR) so I've temporarily switched to using MC2XML to pull down the Microsoft legacy epg data, which is actually the same Zap2It!/TMS data that Schedules Direct provides.

I received my new TV tuner PCI replacement card for the intermittently bad Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600, but could not install it because of an "Access is denied" error for the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents directory. This is a Windows XP problem that was triggered by the new hardware, possibly a bug in the Windows Activation software. Hauppauge support was very helpful and suggested using Microsoft Knowledge Base 308421. I did that and ran the Microsoft repair program Mats_Run.winfilefolder.exe. It reported fixing two other Windows problems, but had no effect on fixing the intended directory access that was its purpose. I'm dead in the water and know this is not a forum on how to fix Windows, but has anyone seen this problem and know how to fix it or have any suggestions?

Is this XP Home or Pro? If it's Pro just right click on the directory, select Properties and go to the security tab. Then just give Everyone full access to that directory. If it won't let you do that you'll have to make yourself the Owner of the directory first, which is another button on the security page. Sorry, I don't have an XP machine to refer to in order to give you exact instructions.

If it's XP Home I thought it wasn't possible to lose access to a directory, but then I rarely use Home versions of Windows so I don't recall for sure.
