New Version: v.80
  • Choose either VLC or WMP as your player (either embedded or external)
  • Ability to edit the settings through the Web remotely

At the bottom of the streaming page, there's a choice to select VLC or WMP, and the same checkbox as before for if you want to spawn an external app instead of the embedded player.

So now, for instance, you can choose WMP and the embedded player will now be a WMP-driven page. Or, choose WMP and choose the external app, and WMP will launch and play the stream.

I haven't tested WMP much, but I think it should work. (both for Firefox and MSIE). Also remember, you must use an ASF mux and the WMV2 and MP3 codecs to get a WMP-compatible stream. If you try to use WMP with mp4 video, don't be surprised if you get no video Smile

Let me know how it works out for you guys, thanks!

I had a chance to try the new version on a few different systems. Here is my results.

It works. I did find that after you make a change to the settings you better close your browser, and restart. For some reason the settings changes just don't always work.

I'm running the "server" on a WinXP box. Some of the "receivers" were WinXP Home w/WMP, Win2k w/WMP9, and a WinXP pro w/VLC and WMP.

WMP in Window w/MSIE
For some reason in all cases when trying to stream to WMP in a browser window it didn't work well.
Win2k - refused to play but didn't error out.
WinXPPro - Player window came up but it said Unknown error. And did not play.
WinXPHome - Played as it should but did not allow for FF, RW, or Pause.

WMP spawned w/MSIE
Worked in all cases, even the Win2k w/WMP9.

VLC Windowed w/MSIE
I could only try VLC on the WinXPHome and WinXPPro box's and as you might expect it worked as it should.

VLC Spawned w/MSIE
This seemed to work the best for me.
WinXP Home - worked
WinXPPro - Worked
Win2k - Didn't try.

VLC Spawned w/Firefox.
Didn't get a chance to check it yet. But since that's the standard config I'll assume it work until I get a chance to check it out.

I think the best quality was 512k with MP4 a/v. WMV @ 512k was second. I didn't try other combinations yet.

One note VLC doesn't seem to care if you use MP4 or WMV. As you know it will play almost anything.

Love the streamer so far. I cant wait until I can stream all my media.

Thanks for your great work.

Not so sucsessful here......it works but no sound. Still works after changing mux from asf to mp4....until I close and reopen stream.aspx. Once I do that streaming is broken. I need to reinstall all the files.....I am assuming something in the settings window is mucking something up in the settings file itself.

I reverted back to the .60 alpha and everything (including sound) worked. Reinstalled new release and again......no sound.

If you are wondering why your images are broken after installing the latest release of GBPVR it is because there is no more images directory.....all skins have there own image folder......the page should be based on a style sheet and colors and such should all be driven from the themes folders. With v.60, WMP worked fine with mp3/asf. Missing button images (know why now). Not all stored movies(mpg) are displayed. Movies that do show up in stream.aspx# only a few actually play. Works fine on 150k, 256k, 512 and LAN.

With v.80, WMP still works fine with mp3/asf. Still missing button images. Not all stored movies(mpg) are displayed. Fewer movies displayed than on v.60 but I believe the very few that do show up all play. Works fine on 150k, 256k, 512 while on LAN it hesitates about avery 5 seconds.

I have only tested with IE.

Overall, GREAT IMPROVEMENT!!! Thanks sginali

Working on my system as well. Thanks for the 'Tip' mentioned above about having to restart the browser each time you change settings. I was wonder why it didn't work anymore after the 1st time. It's works fine each time after restarting now. Both WMP and VLC are both working fine. Sound and all. Awesome!!!
As mentioned, some buttons are missing due to the new theme structure. I did copy all the files in the Default theme into a images subdirectory, but there's still one image that doesn't exitst in any of the directories. The "manage_btn_play.jpg" image.

Otherwise, i'm really liking it. SO eventually one will be able to use the stream option within the main options in index.aspx? So one doesn't have to remember different address's. (IE- /stream.aspx, /index.apsx)

Has the issue of the incorrect recordings been resolved yet because for me that's way more important than choice of codec. I'm sure it's not unique to me but at present, showing deleted and future recordings is making it unusable for anything other than testing so if I can put in a vote to raise the priority of that, then I will Smile

Not nagging, just putting in a vote Wink

Cheers
David.

With the v80 I am only seeing recorded shows....no deletes or future recordings.

The recording issue should be fixed now; only recorded shows that would be flagged as "Ready" in GBPVR will show up.

Thanks for the heads up on having to restart the browser; it must be an issue with the browser caching the page and not really reloading it as it should (every time you visit stream.aspx the settings are loaded fresh). I'll try to patch it up for next time.

A_Brass, and those of you having issues in MSIE with the embedded player, I suspect the issue might be your settings for ActiveX Controls; for instance I know that I have IE set up to block activex to keep it nice and secure in the rare chance that I use it. Please try:

Go to Tools --> Internet Options. Go to the Security tab, hit Trusted Sites, and then click on the Sites button. Make sure the "Require server verification" is unchecked, and add your GBPVR machine to the list. For instance, you would need to do something like:

http://192.168.1.10:7647 (or whatever your IP and webadmin port are)

This should allow your GBPVR pages to use all the ActiveX they want without restrictions; I suspect this has been the reason it's not working.

The seek very well might not be working in this version as I didn't test it, but it will fixed in the future. Just wanted to give you guys a lot of options so that *something* will hopefully work for everyone now.

Thanks to everyone for your testing and feedback! Smile

How do I manually flag my missing recorded shows to "Ready" in GBPVR?
