Sorry madcat. It is my belief that one cannot spoof that. I may be wrong. I tried, but when you take device driver reg keys out of one box and introduce them in another (without the hardware) when Windows loads, it disables the driver when it notices no hardware.

That's sort of how removable hardware works. If you look in the device manager while you pull a piece of hardware, it's "Now you see it, now you don't"

I suggest doing what I did. Take a card out of one box, install it in the machine you want. Configure MCE including guide and schedule. Then pull the card.

The schedule will still download the data from then on...

whurlston Wrote:LOL. What do you want in the GUI? I actually have a GUI version of the downloader. It just released it as a cli app so it could be used in a batch file. I do plan on writing a GUI that you can use to configure configure everything and it would output the batch file that is needed.

OK. Far from it that I suggest a GUI to someone else as my own GUIs get far too gooey...

But here goes...

The program would autodetect OS and launch only appropriate versions of your downloaders or exporters. It would advise if you didn't have a supported OS.

I see a form to enter country and postal code / zip code. (possibly a place to spoof Tuner card Hardware) Click a button, it populates with possible providers and lineups. Select one, save it...

I see pathing, where you could graphically select alternate locations for the database file, or even keep all your files out of the ehome folder altogether...

When the program itself is executed with a commandline switch like 'Auto', it would in order (selectable in the form of course):

  1. Start the esched service, if it had been stopped,
  2. Initiate download, wait.
  3. Launch exporter
  4. launch enhancer (make a hook for Jim_'s I-XMLTV script or embed the commands)
  5. stop esched service
  6. exit

You could also have a button that would auto create/edit the updateEPG.bat so that it had the very basic line:

Code:
.... Path....\WhurlstonsMonster.exe Auto

You mean something like this? Big Grin

Spoofing the tuner card is proving difficult and I'm not sure I want to waste anymore time on it. I think I may have a solution for the multiple OS issue as well. I have some tests though.

Just so we are clear, it's just a wrapper for the MCE grabber. It will still require Media Center.

I understand not wanting to spend too much time on spoofing the card. Maybe later, maybe never. Easier to just temporarily install a supported card...

Don't whimp out now. Build it to use the Yahoo Grabber too!!! All three grabbers, whoo hoo...
