Would these changes require changes by plugin authors or would they be seemlessly handled by the xml files?

No, the plugin authors would not have to change anything. These are just additional tags that can be used by the skin designers.

Awesome.

I didn't know if it was like the "fall back" feature which required plugin support.

Examples:

I'm actually intending to do it a different way, which will allow for partial use of defaults. A couple of examples:

<TextStyle name="SummaryInfo" color="White" typeFace="@@StandardText" size="@@StandardText" style="bold"/>

<TextStyle name="SummaryInfo" color="White" typeFace="@@StandardText" size="15" style="@@StandardText"/>

Where StandardText is a TextStyle defined in the baseskin.xml. I havnt decide the exact symbol I'll use, so it may not end up being @@.

I will not participate i Old Dogs "community project".
It is to slow for me and nothing real is proposed....in my eyes.
I will continue with a fact based suggestion, based on current fact, that the plugin developers maintain and tweak an image based skin for their own purposes. After all it is their work and they should be the creators of the skins. McBainUK, Jeff, Psycik and others uses BlueMCE2....and it looks good and works. Why not just make layout GuideLines for skinning so the skins would have a "similar" look? .....and so the plugins would work with all skins?
I will post my reality based work here.
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=17950
Feel free to comment suggestions.

Have a look at other skins and see how they work first.
I think all skinners and Sub, should download the current skins and have a look at the designs and features......and discuss what is good and bad.
Then create a suggestion of what would be a decent solution.
I wish you the best of luck.
Best Regards

I don't recall ever having ownership of this project. I simply was the last one to post a concrete plan.

Besides, as best as I can tell, there no longer is a project.

So long and thanks for all the fish!

I also assumed the new methods sub is going to introduce are going to change the scope of everything so that put things on "hold" related to it as far as what I was looking into (ie baseskin.xml and the mechanics). If these changes work as well as expected, there really may not need to be a "community skin". Which is the point of this thread.

This thread and the "Too many plugins..." thread I viewed as being two different entities, that have potential for overlap.

So far, there hasn't been any feedback on what to do for any community project.

McBainUK started this thread with a plan, nobody else really chimed in. MixMan stated a plan, nobody else really chimed in.
Old Dog stated a plan, no agreement was made on following it as outlined, no agreement was made on what to start with or what the results should be.
I didn't even formulate a plan do disagree with.

Then sub dropped the change on our laps.

If a community project is to go foward, there needs to be community support and input.

I won't decide on what the community goals are, I stepped away from that a while ago. I will follow what comes from it. Sure I will offer suggestions, but that is as far as it will go.

If this is a dead topic now, let it die an unresolved death.

The skinners in the community does not seem that interested in a "community" project.
Tipstir has shown no interest. He goes his own way.
Dottore does not show any interest.
Old Dog opposes or show no interest to suggestions.
THis means that all skinners will go their own ways......as before

McBainUK and Jeff are the only plugin programmers that has show a little interest.

The only person that could set Guidelines or rules is Sub.

What I am trying to do with my document is to collect facts to make a desition upon. I am sure Sub will listen and consider the facts presented.
The fact list may also hopefully be a guideline at the end.

So lets work on fact/information list to present to Sub.
Best Regards
