The post by sub confirms there is at least one user that has no trouble with the Avermedia A180 which is only $69.00 at http://www.pcalchemy.com This helps users save $30.00

I have several computers. I have one of them setup with GB-PVR and I use this strictly has a DVR and for media editing. I have an ATI HDTV Wonder and Saphire ATI Theater 550 Pro in it. Another PC I have is hooked up to my 55" Mitsubishi widescreen and it runs Win XPMCE. I use this primarily for watching TV and I have an Avermedia A180 and Saphire ATI Theater 550 Pro in it as well. My experience with both of these cards and with reading forums about some of the other cards out there is that none of them are truly "plug and play." There is usually some level of tinkering to be done.

Sub,

Things are really looking good on my end now. I can scan and get almost all of my channels. I'm only missing a few that I could get before, and only one that I am particularly interested in. Between my two cards, one found one additional channel.

Thank you very much for getting this all squared away. I knew eventually you find the problem and fix it.

Been getting help on AVS Forum to setup my HDTV Wonder. Finally, two weeks later, I've got feeds on my screen. This is what I have: Dell Dimension 9600 P4 2.8, 1GB Ram...w/ Diamond Radeon 9550 128MB AGP.

This is the problem. My feed is running ok but it seems to lags a little. Lips and sounds don't sync. Is there any tweaking I could do on GB-PVR? Or I need a better video card - I sitll could return my 9550 and get an X1300, if that helps.

This is typically a result of the decoders you are using. You will need to play around with your audio decoder setting until you find the right match.

I don't have a sound card. Would that be a problem?

I have sync problems, but its only on one channel. Actually ill have to double check, but i think when i put in the exact tuning request it fixed it.

Just wanted to post a follow up. Since I finished working with Sub to get the scanning working I've had no problems at all making HD recordings with my AverMedia A-180 card. There's only one channel it was flakey collecting data on when scanning and it's a marginal signal from a low-power station - my Sony TV has problems staying locked to the same signal, so I'm not going to attribute this to the card or the software.

I use off-air HD and have analog cable so I've Just been spending some time adding my Hauppauge PVR150 card for the analog cable and getting all the channel mapping sorted out so that they appear seamlessly in the TV guide, where I have an off-air HD signal as well as a cable signal for the same channel I mapped the HD channel into the TV guide and the put the analog version way at the top of the guide as a backup or if I ever need to make dual/overlapping recordings.

Everythings working really well - I think it's time to move this into production (i.e. move it downstairs, hook up the DVI to the TV, the SDPIF output to my 5.1 Audio system and show the wife how to use it) and retire my existing Freevo w/MVP setup.

Thanks Sub !

Tinkering doesn't scare me, but it all depends on what that entails. I wasted weeks trying to get nVidia drivers installed correctly under AMD64 Ubuntu, and finally abandoned MythTV plans for GB-PVR.

I'm in the market for an ATSC receiver card as an adjunct to my PVR-500. I was almost settled on an ATI TV Wonder 650 until the company pulled the plug within a week of release.

Following this thread has made me a little paranoid about ATI products.

Right now the AVerTVHD card catches my eye, but the ATSC card market is so slim in the US there aren't many options. At least most of the PCI cards are relatively cheap.

Just an update but I've had great success with the patches. I installed v5 last night and all seems to go well. No rescan necessary.

One issue I do have is that I am having my whole computer shutdown from time to time when GBPVR starts up. I think this is due to just a slight overclocking of my PC, but I'm going to rule that out tomorrow. Seems to just be running and then all of a sudden a shutdown. CPU temps arent up. Not sure if anyone else has had something similar but I figure it's hardware related vs. software.
