I think that's reasonable behaviour... I tested a 4 gig file...
one folder to another on the same drive - 7-8 minutes
one drive to another (across a 100mb network) - 7-8 minutes
one drive to another physical drive on the same machine - 2.5 minutes

Again, a reminder that this is a clean Windows install.

Your numbers give you a transfer rate of only 4.8 MB /s, whereas mine are in the order of between 40 and 90 MB/s, depending on the sizes of files being transferred. It sounds to me like your system is the one with something wrong.

Oh! Sorry, everyone. The folder I copied was 185 GB, not 1.85 GB as I accidentally typed. I will correct the post now.

That folder copied in 1 hour 17 minutes using Windows XP copy, which equates to 41 MB/s. It took 1 hour and 53 minutes using Teracopy, which equates to only 28 MB/s.

(actually, moving a folder on the same drive should be instantaneous; it only updates the allocation table).

Still, stu, your results sound awfully slow.

Yes, about 4 gig in about 2 minutes is what I am getting when I involve one of my drives (now that I have reset the channels to UDMA). On all of the others, I seem to between 1.5 and 2 minutes for about 7 gig, depending on the sizes of the file within the transfer.

Stu, try a large copy of 20 gigabytes or more, and time the result. I wonder if the reset script would benefit you. I now have mine running before every planned restart; not taking any chances!
